El léxico de un idioma, y la actualización que de él hacen los hablantes, es decir, el vocabulario, es uno de los aspectos lingüísticos más sugerentes y atractivos en el proceso de adquisición-aprendizaje de las lenguas. Contribuir a ello es el objetivo de este manual. Trata de cubrir, dentro de la colección Manuales de formación de profesores de español 2/L, la descripción explícita del español en sus diferentes planos, en él, el profesor –y también un estudiante avanzado- tiene a mano una descripción del léxico de la lengua vehicular de más de 400 millones de personas, localizadas en su mayoría en América Central y América del Sur, aunque el español hablado en España tenga el sello de la solera de la lengua y haga que muchos -equivocadamente- lo consideren ejemplar. Junto a los capítulos dedicados a la formación de palabras se examinan el diccionario como herramienta, la importancia de las lenguas de especialidad, la fraseología como exponente cultural o el eufemismo y lo “políticamente correcto” en el español de hoy. En todo el volumen se ofrecen actividades y ejercicios, reflejo de la preocupación por el cómo enseñar, y, por esto, el último capítulo está dedicado, exclusivamente, a presentar propuestas susceptibles de adaptación a diferentes situaciones de aprendizaje.
