L’obiettivo del volume “La banca islamica” di Paolo Pietro Biancone è, una volta messi in evidenza i fondamenti culturali indispensabili ad una buona comprensione della finanza islamica, quello di delineare i meccanismi di funzionamento della banca musulmana, evidenziando i suoi prodotti, al fine di essere di utilità per l’introduzione di questo alternativo modello di business nel contesto italiano. L’ambiente finanziario internazionale sta richiamando sempre più l’attenzione su un sistema finanziario alternativo e nello stesso tempo complementare di intermediazione, meno orientato all’indebitamento, alla speculazione e al rischio. Una risposta possibile è offerta dalla finanza islamica, un sistema finanziario in cui i principi guida delle sue operazioni e attività sono basati sui precetti e sui dettami della Sharia che costituisce la legge islamica e deriva la sua origine direttamente dal Corano. Il sistema bancario islamico, presentato come “theological dream” sogno teologico, è divenuto una realtà operativa e accettata in tutto il mondo. Le regole etico religiose che maggiormente influenzano la finanza islamica sono il divieto di applicare interessi (riba), quello di mettere in atto iniziative aleatorie che presentino una quota elevata di rischio e di incertezza (gharar) e la proibizione di attività speculative o di azzardo (maysir). È, in particolare, il divieto di corrispondere e ricevere interesse ciò che differenzia la banca islamica da quella occidentale, detta comunemente “convenzionale”, che non ha queste preoccupazioni religiose. Le istituzioni finanziarie islamiche sono ricorse a pratiche diverse per remunerare la propria attività di intermediazione: la più importante e tipica è la partecipazione ai profitti e alle perdite (Profit and loss sharing). Il sub-obiettivo di questo studio è in effetti, dopo aver messo in evidenza il substrato culturale indispensabile per una buona comprensione, di tenersi su una visione tecnica per rendere i prodotti e i servizi bancari e finanziari comprensibili agli operatori del settore e ai clienti potenziali.
