La censura en la literatura infantil y juvenil es un fenómeno que ha estado presente desde el mismo momento en que se empiezan a escribir libros para niños y, de una u otra forma, sigue siendo realidad en nuestros días. En esta misma colección –n.º 155– puede consultarse un pormenorizado estudio coordinado por Pedro César Cerrillo y M.ª Victoria Sotomayor, en el que se presentan, analizan y clasifican las diferentes censuras que en los últimos cien años han sufrido los libros infantiles. Partiendo del mismo, que ha puesto en negro sobre blanco un tema del que algunas veces se hablaba, pero cuyo estudio no se había afrontado aún de manera sistematizada, publicamos ahora estas nuevas contribuciones a un campo que sigue ofreciendo muchos aspectos interesantes en los que incidir. En estas páginas ofrecemos las contribuciones de más de medio centenar de investigadores de diferentes procedencias académicas, geográficas y disciplinares, pero con un objetivo en común: contribuir con su dedicación a un conocimiento más completo del complejo tema de la censura en la literatura infantil desde diferentes prismas e intereses. El primer capítulo nos presenta un panorama general sobre la persecución de los libros a lo largo de la historia. Tras él, siguen el resto de investigaciones agrupadas en cuatro bloques temáticos: censura y LIJ en España, en Latinoamérica, en otras partes del mundo, y censuras que sobrepasan estas restricciones temáticas. Cierra el libro una reflexión sobre poemas y poetas españoles censurados durante la última dictadura.

Aquest llibre és un estudi de la censura i recepció que les obres d’Ernest Hemingway van tenir a Espanya. En el primer capítol es demostra que quan el nord-americà va escriure «Per a qui toquen les campanes» defensava la política cultural de l’Aliança d'Intel·lectuals Antifeixistes per a la Defensa de la Cultura. A més, s’hi ofereix una anàlisi al·legòrica de la novel·la amb l’objectiu de demostrar com el text s’assembla a les al·legories d’Alberti. El segon capítol resumeix la crítica espanyola sobre les obres de Hemingway. Es fa atenció especial a les ressenyes anticipades que es publicaren a Espanya abans que els seus llibres apareguessen en el país. Cinc dels set capítols d’aquest llibre són resultat de la recerca que s’ha dut a terme en l’Arxiu General de l’Administració d’Alcalá de Henares. El tercer capítol és un resum dels expedients compilats pels censors espanyols sobre les obres de l’escriptor publicades a Espanya durant el règim de Franco. El quart comenta l’expedient que els censors franquistes van reunir sobre el llibre «Hemingway, entre la vida y la muerte», de l’autor espanyol José Luis Castillo-Puche. Aquest capítol demostra com els censors controlaren la crítica sobre Hemingway, a més de censurar els llibres de l’escriptor. El cinquè capítol reprodueix i comenta la correspondència sobre el film «Per a qui toquen les campanes» enviada entre l’ambaixador d’Espanya a Washington i els cònsols espanyols als Estats Units. El sisè capítol publica i comenta la correspondència sobre el film «Les neus del Kilimanjaro» enviada entre els diplomàtics espanyols destinats als Estats Units. El setè estudia l’expedient compilat sobre Gustavo Durán, amic de Hemingway durant la Guerra Civil i personatge de la novel·la «Per a qui toquen les campanes». Aquest expedient aporta una nova interpretació de les al·lusions al poble d’Usera en la novel·la de Hemingway.

Robert Bellarmine was one of the pillars of post-Reformation Catholicism: he was a celebrated theologian and a highly ranked member of the Congregations of the Inquisition and of the Index, the censor in charge of the Galileo affair. Bellarmine was also one of the most original political theorists of his time, and he participated directly in many of the political conflicts that agitated Europe between the end of the sixteenth and the beginning of the seventeenth century. Stefania Tutino offers the first full-length study of the impact of Bellarmine's theory of the potestas indirecta in early modern Europe. Following the reactions to Bellarmine's theory across national and confessional boundaries, this book explores some of the most crucial political and theological knots in the history of post-Reformation Europe, from the controversy over the Oath of Allegiance to the battle over the Interdetto in Venice. The book sets those political and religious controversies against the background of the theological and institutional developments of the post-Tridentine Catholic Church. By examining the violent and at times surprising controversies originated by Bellarmine's theory, this book challenges some of the traditional assumptions regarding the theological shape of post-Tridentine Catholicism; it offers a fresh perspective on the centrality of the links between confessional affiliation and political allegiance in the development of the modern nation-states; and it contributes to our understanding of the development of 'modern' notions of power and authority.

La censura de libros y de actividades culturales en los regímenes totalitarios, sobre todo los del siglo XX, ha sido estudiada desde diversos aspectos ofrece una amplia bibliografía. Sin embargo no se ha prestado suficiente atención ni a la censura de libros para el público infantil y juvenil ni a las exclusiones de ciertas lecturas literarias en el ámbito escolar, quizá por considerar que tenían menos trascendencia. Tras dos capítulos introductorios (“Literatura y poder” y “El concepto de censura. Las censuras en la LIJ”), el libro se estructura en dos partes: la primera dedicada a “Censura y LIJ en la España franquista” (con atención no solo a la historia de los libros infantiles censurados, sino también a las censuras soterradas, a las que afectaron a los exiliados tras la Guerra Civil, a las traducciones y a la LIJ escrita en otras lenguas del Estado; y con dos apartados científicos para la censura de los tebeos e historias y del teatro infantil). En la segunda parte se ha dedicado un capítulo a la LIJ censurada en cada uno de los siete países que se han estudiado.

En esta obra se muestra la manera como funcionó el proceso de censura inquisitorial en los libros en la Nueva Granada, específicamente en las bibliotecas de Santafé. Aunque también se hace referencia a algunas censuras llevadas a cabo en las ciudades de Popayán y Cartagena, debido a la importancia de estas en la época. Este proceso se estudiará en uno de los ámbitos en donde el conocimiento podía hacer más daño por su difícil control: las bibliotecas privadas, con el fin de probar que la Inquisición utilizó la censura como forma de dominación cultural y social en el mundo colonial, para reproducir la mentalidad católica.El libro está estructurado en tres capítulos. En el primero se analiza la censura como elemento positivo, esto es, con una función creadora que forjaba el espíritu de la sociedad colonial. El segundo trata sobre el carácter represivo de la censura y su papel en el control social y cultural. El capítulo final está dedicado al expurgo y sus distintas formas, es decir, al modo en que se censuraba.

This book presents two systems of censorship and literary promotion, revealing how literature can be molded to support authoritarian regimes. The issue is complex in that at a descriptive level the strategies and methods new states use to control communication through the written word can be judged by how and when formal decrees were issued, and how publishing media, whether in the form of publishing companies or at the individual level, engaged with political overseers. But equally, literature was a means of resistance against an authoritarian regime, not only for writers but for readers as well. From the point of view of historical memory and intellectual history, stories of people without history and the production of their texts through the literary underground can be constructed from subsequent testimony: from books sold in secret, to the writings of women in jail, to books that were written but never published or distributed in any way, and to myriad compelling circumstances resulting from living under fascist authority. A parallel study on two fascist movements provides a unique viewpoint at literary, social and political levels. Comparative analysis of literary censorship/literary reward allows an understanding of the balance between dictatorship, official policy, and what literary acts were deemed acceptable. The regime need to control its population is revealed in the ways that a particular type of literature was encouraged; in the engagement of propoganda promotion; and in the setting up of institutions to gain international acceptance of the regime. The work is an important contribution to the history of twentieth-century authoritarianism and the development fascist ideas.
