Il presente saggio svela il segreto più intimo della città di Napoli attraverso un'indagine archeoastronomica sulle motivazioni religiose e filosofiche che furono alla base dell'urbanistica del suo antico nucleo greco, Neapolis, fondato tra il VI e il V secolo a.C. dai Cumani e da altri coloni greci. La città appare progettata in modo da richiamare nella geometria delle sue strade e nel suo peculiare orientamento geografico-astronomico durante i solstizi e gli equinozi il culto di Apollo (il dio Sole dei Greci) e di Partenope (la sirena-oracolo del luogo). La sua planimetria sembra derivare anche dalla cosmologia pitagorica basata sulla sezione aurea e le proporzioni armoniche del numero dieci. Tutto questo fece di Neapolis un perfetto microcosmo o, meglio, una città-tempio con al centro il sole divino. I decumani e i cardini del centro storico, la cultura partenopea, le chiese e il Duomo di Napoli conservano a tutt'oggi nelle loro geometrie, simboli, canti, dolci, mosaici e reliquie la memoria di tutta la tradizione solare di Neapolis.
