Le but principal de notre thèse était de défendre l'Hypothèse du localisme linguistique (Lyons, 1977) affirmant que les expressions spatiales sont grammaticalement et sémantiquement fondamentales, ainsi que l'hypothèse du Jackendoff (1985, 209) d'après laquelle "la cognition de l'espace précède celle du temps". Nous avons constitué une ontologie spatio-temporelle de base (à partir des travaux de Casati et Varzi 1999)) qui nous a permis de définir de la façon formelle les sémantismes de base des prépositions spatiales, temporelles et spatio-temporelles en français. Le sémantisme de base de toute préposition est minimaliste ; il doit satisfaire ses usages standard et non-standard et laisser la place aux inférences contextuelles. Dans la partie contrastive de notre travail, nous avons analysé les usages non-standard des prépositions et des expressions déictiques en anglais, serbe (et parfois les autres langues slaves), swahili, kikuyu, japonais, arabe et louo.

Six articles sur les effets du temps, de la saillance et du contexte composent la présente thèse. Quatre des modèles les plus populaires en psychologie cognitive de l'apprentissage sont convoqués. Le modèle du temps scalaire de Gibbon (1977) est utilisé pour l'étude du facteur "temps". Trois articles expérimentaux sont consacrés à l'étude de l'inhibition de délai et au résultat de superposition dans une tâche d'évitement signalé. Les modèles de Rescorla-Wagner (1972) et Mackintosch (1975) sont utilisés pour l'étude du facteur "saillance". Une note théorique est consacrée au modèle de Rescorla-Wagner (1972) et un long article expérimental est ensuite consacré à l'étude de l'effet de la saillance des stimulus dans une tâche de jugement prédictif. Le modèle de Bouton (1993) est enfin utilisé pour l'étude du facteur "contexte". Our subjective inner life is what really matters to us as human beings--and yet we know relatively little about how it arises. Over a long and distinguished career Benjamin Libet has conducted experiments that have helped us see, in clear and concrete ways, how the brain produces conscious awareness. For the first time, Libet gives his own account of these experiments and their importance for our understanding of consciousness. Most notably, Libet's experiments reveal a substantial delay--the mind time of the title--before any awareness affects how we view our mental activities. One of the most enigmatic aspects of experience concerns time. Since pre-Socratic times scholars have speculated about the nature of time, asking questions such as: What is time? Where does it come from? Where does it go? The central proposal of The Structure of Time is that time, at base, constitutes a phenomenologically real experience. Drawing on findings in psychology, neuroscience, and utilising the perspective of cognitive linguistics, this work argues that our experience of time may ultimately derive from perceptual processes, which in turn enable us to perceive events. As such, temporal experience is a pre-requisite for abilities such as event perception and comparison, rather than an abstraction based on such phenomena. The book represents an examination of the nature of temporal cognition, with two foci: (i) an investigation into (pre-conceptual) temporal experience, and (ii) an analysis of temporal structure at the conceptual level (which derives from temporal experience).

Comment parvenons-nous à ordonner correctement les événements d’un récit ?
