La falta de credibilidad en la Iglesia surgió del momento en que lo que se predicaba a su interior no concordaba con lo que se vivía, que lo que se decía no se ajustaba a lo que se hacía. Es que ante los episodios de abuso y maltrato a menores muchos responsables dentro de la ella dieron prioridad a la protección de la institución por sobre sus víctimas, ocultando la terrible verdad en lugar de reconocerla. Esta situación ha calado muy hondo en la sociedad y ha permitido que muchos se hayan alejado de la Iglesia desilusionados. Lo que prima hoy es hablar de la Iglesia, cuando menos, con desprecio, incluso entre los creyentes. Dicen que el signo de los tiempos es gritar: “Cristo sí; Iglesia no”, buscando de esta manera, separar fe y vida. Nuestra Iglesia está en una encrucijada. El camino riguroso y claro que ha asumido el Papa Francisco se debe percibir como destinado a garantizar la verdad, la justicia y la caridad, particularmente con las víctimas. Sabemos que ha iniciado importantes cambios en sus modos de proceder y que tendrá que seguir haciéndolos, sobre la base de conocer toda su realidad. No será fácil, pero creemos que la Iglesia saldrá fortalecida, más humilde, menos presuntuosa, pero renovada después de esta grave crisis. Más parecida a la Iglesia que Jesús buscó. La Iglesia católica sobrevivirá a pesar de los hombres, no necesariamente gracias a ellos, porque es Dios quien está detrás sosteniéndola. Debemos aceptar la realidad actual sin rebeldía ni resignación, con amor para saber protegerla, con decisión para saber acompañarla y con fe para saber creer en ella. Es el tiempo para entenderla, apoyarla y cuidarla. No podemos caer en la tentación de recluirnos, pensar que todo está mal, que es una crisis sin solución o que son otros los llamados a superarla. Nos guste o no estamos invitados los laicos a enfrentar la realidad así como se presenta. Es tiempo de decisiones, es tiempo de colaborar activamente en la renovación de nuestra Iglesia, es hora de hacernos cargo de nuestra responsabilidad en la misión de Cristo.
