Resulta difícil evaluar los testimonios, casi siempre deshilvanados, que permitan reconstruir la mentalidad de la mayoría. El autor, fiel a su propósito, se arriesga por esta vía, y el acercamiento que logra enriquece la visión que el lector adquiere con respecto al pasado, especialmente dentro del diario acontecer, que cambia tan lentamente a través de los siglos.
