Fernando Liuzzi s'évertua à élargir les horizons de la musicologie italienne en introduisant des orientations issues de la tradition allemande. Il divulgua les théories de Hanslick, Lipps et Fiedler, alors presque inconnues en Italie. D'après Liuzzi, la fusion de la réflexion philosophique et de la musicologie était cruciale afin de suggérer une nouvelle approche aux études musicales visant à transmettre les théories de Benedetto Croce. L'œuvre de Liuzzi offre une perspective intéressante sur les origines de la musicologie italienne et sur les relations avec les autres domaines du savoir. Fernando Liuzzi strove to find a compromise between the historical/analytical musicology and the aesthetics of music. He tried to expand the Italian musicology perspectives, introducing some ideas coming from the German tradition. He spread theories from Hanslick, Lipps and Fiedler, at that time rather unknown in Italy. For Liuzzi it was crucial to blend philosophical thinking and musicology, expanding Benedetto Croce's ideas to create a new way to approach music studies. Liuzzi's work can provide a good insight about the early Italian musicology, its self-definition and its relationship with other cultural areas.

Die 'Achse Berlin-Rom' verband mit den Regimen Mussolinis und Hitlers nicht nur zwei faschistische Diktaturen unterschiedlichen Typs, sondern auch zwei traditionsreiche, Identifikation stiftende und eng miteinander verflochtene Musikkulturen. Mit keinem anderen Land und in keiner anderen Kunstsparte unterhielten Deutschland und Italien zwischen den beiden Weltkriegen engere Beziehungen als zueinander im Musikbereich. Eine ganze Generation von Musikern, Komponisten wie Interpreten, aber auch Musikwissenschaftlern und Musikpublizisten wurde nachhaltig von diesem Austausch geprägt, dessen Vorzeichen durch und durch ideologisch waren. In den vielfältigen musikpolitischen Kontakten, Einflüssen, Abhängigkeiten und Rivalitäten zwischen den beiden Mächten spiegeln sich unmittelbar deren kulturelle Selbst- und Fremdbilder. Sie stehen exemplarisch für das Verhältnis zwischen dem deutschen und dem italienischen Faschismus und berühren den Kern dieser prekären Beziehung. Ausgezeichnet mit dem Forschungspreis Auswärtige Kulturpolitik des Instituts für Auslandsbeziehungen. Tobias Reichard studierte historische Musikwissenschaft, Italianistik und Rechtswissenschaft. Als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter arbeitete er an der Uni Hamburg und dem Forschungsinstitut für Musiktheater Thurnau/Bayreuth zur Musik in Diktaturen. Seit März 2020 ist er wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter des Ben-Haim-Forschungszentrums der Hochschule für Musik und Theater München.

Questo volume è l’insieme di tre saggi di autori diversi, su argomenti molto lontani fra loro, legati dal comune denominatore di “storia musicale del XX secolo”: una riflessione sulla musica italiana del ventennio fascista, una biografia di Fabrizio De André e una panoramica del Punk Rock di fine secolo. Il trittico, così formato, tratteggia, come annunciato nel titolo del libro, uno schizzo parziale ma significativo di alcuni aspetti sociali, politici e filosofici sottesi a tre momenti storici e culturali oltremodo eterogenei. Difficilmente si possono immaginare mondi così diversi, linguaggi così distanti, come quelli percorsi da autori quali Alfredo Casella, Fabrizio De André o Larry Livermore. L’abissale diversità culturale e stilistica fra questi tre ambiti musicali non preoccupa gli autori, poiché non è l’aspetto estetico ad essere indagato in questo itinerario storico, quanto quello sociale e politico, essendo tutta l’ampia produzione musicale in questione raccontata e descritta dall’angolatura del suo rapporto col potere. Da questo punto di vista è emblematico il saggio sul Punk Rock, nel quale la filosofia di vita comune a una certa cultura underground viene giustamente evidenziata come dato preminente rispetto a quello strettamente musicale. Il risultato finale, emergente al termine di questo itinerario novecentesco inconsueto, ha a che fare con la capacità unica della musica di muovere emozioni e smuovere coscienze.
