La industria cultural-musical dio un gran impulso a la música popular gracias a la producción en serie, fabricando mercancías musicales, pero manteniendo al mismo tiempo la producción social, cultural y artística. El avance tecnológico facilitó la dinámica de acumulación al permitir la compra-venta de mercancías culturales. Entonces, ¿La obra de arte musical es una mercancía o una excepcionalidad económica? no acata las leyes generales de la producción capitalista, pero se comporta como una mercancía. Las propias características de esta música -autenticidad, rebeldía, irreverencia, sonoridad, estridencia, arte, deseo, cultura, sensualidad, liberación espiritual y emancipación- si bien se adaptaron al mercado, su omnipresencia hizo que la música pudiera finalmente mantener su aura.
