Argentina’s Right-Wing Universe During the Democratic Period provides a comprehensive analysis of the course of right-wing politics in the country in the last 40 years. In 1983, after the fall of a violent military regime, Argentina began the longest period of democratic stability in its history—40 years marked by economic, institutional, social and political crises. This book examines the trajectory of the different right-wing organisations and ideological developments during these years, seeking to understand both the distinctions and the continuities that lie beneath its metamorphoses. Argentina has always acted as a laboratory in which to appreciate how the major problems and questions that concern those who have studied the right-wing in recent decades are translated into a particular political culture. In an international scenario marked by the social and political growth of different right-wing movements, some of which pose a threat to liberal democracies, the study of the Argentine case can provide greater clarity and a different perspective on problems that transcend this specific national case. This book will be of interest to scholars of Argentinian and Latin American politics and history, as well as specialists on the comparative politics of the radical right.

Two focal areas are central in the 2015 Yearbook of the Simon Dubnow Institute. In the follow-up to 100th anniversary since the outbreak of World War I, one thematic focus is devoted to the life and work of the universal historian, sociologist and language philosopher, Eugen Rosenstock-Huessy (1888–1973), for whom World War I became a key epistemological experience. The articles in this focal area deal inter alia with the significance for intellectual history of the Leipziger Nachtgespräch (Leipzig Nocturnal Discussion) in July 1913, in which along with Rosenstock-Huessy, Franz Rosenzweig and Rudolf Ehrenberg also participated. The second thematic focus deals with the documentary and fictional representation of history after the Holocaust. Proceeding from the multifarious character of the representation of and discourse about historical and political events in the performing arts, the articles explore their influence in an extended framework in the context of research on postwar history. How and to what extent did theatre and film contribute to shaping the discussions in society about Jewish history and culture, and thus the history of the perception of the Holocaust? In the regular and special sections of the Yearbook, there are articles on the history of memory, the history of science and law in Palestine/Israel, the history of religions, and Russian-Jewish literary history and publishing history in the nineteenth century.

Social Economy Of The Metropolis written by Allen J. Scott and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-11-20 with Social Science categories.

This book is about the renaissance of cities in the twenty first century and their increasing role as centers of creative economic activity. It attempts to put some conceptual and descriptive order around issues of urbanization in the contemporary world, emphasizing the idea of the social economy of the metropolis, which is to say, a view of the urban organism as an intertwined system of social and economic life played out through the arena of urban space. The book opens with a review of some essentials of urban theory, the book aims to re-articulate the urban question in a way that is relevant to city life and politics in the present era. It then analyses the functional characteristics of the urban economy, with special reference to the rise of a group of core sectors such as media, fashion, music, etc., focused on cognitive and cultural forms of work. These sectors are growing with great rapidity in the world's largest cities at the present time, and they play a major role in the urban resurgence that has been occurring of late. The discussion then explores the spatial ramifications of this new economy in cities and the ways in which it appears to be ushering in major shifts in divisions of labor and urban social stratification, as marked by a growing divide between a stratum of elite workers on the one side and a low-wage proletariat on the other. Allen Scott is one of the world's foremost thinkers on the economies of modern cities, and in this book presents a concise introduction to his innovative and insightful perspective.

Politics Religion And Society In Latin America written by Daniel H. Levine and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Latin America categories.

Long assumed to be an unchanging and unquestioned bulwark of established power and privilege, religion in Latin America has diversified and flourished, while taking on new social and political roles in more open societies. How did this change occur? Why did churches in the region embrace new ideas about rights, sponsor social movements, and become advocates for democracy? Are further changes on the horizon? Daniel Levine explores these issues, uniquely situating the Latin American experience in a rich theoretical and comparative context.
