Esto nos podría llevar a pensar que fue allí donde etnológos y etnólogas, con apoyo del Estado, concentraron sus esfuerzos desde un comienzo. Sin embargo, no fue así. Al indagar en la historia de la antropología en Colombia entre las décadas de 1930 y 1950 resulta mucho más interesante la invención del Museo Arqueológico Nacional, que hoy prácticamente nadie recuerda. ¿Cómo fue la historia temprana de estas dos instituciones? ¿Qué concepciones del patrimonio arqueológico promovían? ¿Y por qué el proyecto del Museo Arqueológico Nacional se debilitó hasta desaparecer? Para responder a estas preguntas La invención de El Dorado aborda el surgimiento de estos museos e indaga en sus prácticas de exhibición, sus formas de representación del territorio y sus intercambios con instituciones e investigadores de otras latitudes.
