Die Zusammenhänge zwischen Gedächtnisdarstellungen und Geschlechternormen und -bildern in der neueren jüdischen Literatur sind vielfältig: Prozesse des Erinnerns und Vergessens werden als geschlechtertypisch inszeniert; die Funktionsweisen des menschlichen Gedächtnisses werden in den Kontext von Geschlechterperformanzen gestellt; Gedächtnismetaphern sowie Sexualisierungen als Tabubruchstrategie produzieren Geschlechtercodierungen der so dargestellten Gedächtnisse; geschlechtertypische Erfahrungen führen zu unterschiedlichen Auswirkungen der erinnernten Vergangenheit auf die Gegenwart der Figuren. Anhand eines transnationalen Textkorpus aus Romanen und Erzähltexten, die zwischen 1980 und 2014 erschienen sind und deren Autorinnen und Autoren nach 1945 geboren wurden, arbeitet Mirjam Bitter erstmals systematisch Wechselwirkungen zwischen Gedächtnis und Geschlecht an einem konkreten Gegenstand heraus. Dabei zeigt sie durch textnahe Analysen auch mögliche Auswirkungen auf die Deutung von Vergangenheit sowie unterschiedliche Facetten der literarischen Arbeit an einem jüdischen Gedächtnis im Besonderen.
