La conciliación de la vida laboral y familiar de la mujer es un problema permanente en el Ecuador y el mundo, desde que las mujeres se incorporan al campo laboral. Este trabajo de titulación trata sobre la problemática de las mujeres del sector público ecuatoriano del Distrito 5 del Ministerio de Educación, y de cómo ellas concilian su trabajo productivo y reproductivo. Se aplicó el método etnográfico y cualitativo de investigación con entrevistas e historias de vida de un estudio de caso específico fundamentado en las teorías feministas del siglo XX y actuales en la diversidad de conceptos sobre conciliación que nacen en la posguerra europea. Inicia con lo histórico del trabajo femenino (en Ecuador y en el mundo) y de conciliación; luego, se refiere a la normativa ecuatoriana respecto a conciliación en los códigos y Constitución del 2008, a las políticas públicas y al discurso sobre la igualdad. Finalmente, los hallazgos encontrados en la investigación se clasifican en corresponsabilidad entre hombres y mujeres para las labores del cuidado y en otras categorías donde el cuidado es apoyado por personas de la familia o externas a la misma. Se concluye que el Estado es responsable de la creación y ejecución de políticas que favorezca a las mujeres del sector público, sin embargo, el patriarcado está anquilosado en la cultura estatal, en las mismas mujeres y hombres ecuatorianos.
