Este volumen recoge las ponencias que se impartieron en el curso extraordinario de la Universidad de Zaragoza titulado La normalización social de las lenguas minoritarias. Experiencias y procedimientos para la salvaguarda de un patrimonio inmaterial, celebrado en Jaca en julio 2018. Cuando una lengua no está normalizada socialmente, se utiliza de modo exclusivo o predominante de manera oral en el ámbito familiar y en registros informales, y, en ese estado primario, la lengua no tiene más manifestación que la multiplicidad dialectal. La normalización supone la recuperación de su status de lengua «normal», es decir, de lengua cuyo uso oral y escrito sea natural y espontáneo en cualquiera de las situaciones que se pueden producir en la vida pública y personal de sus hablantes. En este volumen se aportan las claves para entender los procesos de normalización que han experimentado —y todavía experimentan— algunas de las lenguas minoritarias de Europa, en concreto las propias de la Comunidad Autónoma de Aragón y las más próximas a ella (catalán, aragonés, gallego, asturiano, euskera y occitano).

The concept of linguistic justice, as applied to minoritized languages, sheds light upon the way in which minoritized communities conduct their lives in less than optimal environments. Precisely for that reason, the theoretical framework for the study of minoritized languages has been constructed from different areas of knowledge, creating a situation in which "language" is just one of the elements. This collection of essays proposes to recover the centrality of bilingualism, biculturalism and bidialectalism in the understanding of the different social, cultural and political processes of historical and contemporary language justice. It provides relevant theoretical and practical frameworks on the latest studies in linguistic justice as applied to minoritized languages and linguistic varieties such as Korean in Los Angeles, USA, Arabic in Spain, or Náhuat in Central America. Analyzing the acquisition, maintenance and attrition of these languages both in digital and physical environments, the volume contributes to expanding our knowledge of the sociolinguistic, educational, political and social realities that occur in minoritized languages.

In all languages, humans frequently use linguistic combinations called phraseological units (PUs) in communicative acts. These PUs are characterized by their institutionalized fixation and, in many cases, by their opacity. Traditionally, the work on phraseology has placed the emphasis on the total fixing of components and structures of verbal expressions. Variation in PUs is currently an uncontested fact and has been extensively studied and analyzed. In addition, in the case of languages like Spanish, English, French, spoken in many countries, new creations or diatopic variants arise. While these diatopic expressions have been collected or analyzed in their territory of influence, no comprehensive collection showing all the expressions and contrastive analysis to observe the similarities and differences between these diatopic creations with all their idiosyncratic and cultural references have been made so far. The content of this volume deals with numerous linguistic, lexicographic and translational problems in the context of language variation in general, as well as specifically related to diatopic variation. The aim is to make progress in these challenging and highly interesting areas which still pose many comprehension and translation problems.
