Es factible considerar el analisis de la Curva de Phillips en la Argentina y observar sus resultados, para entender el comportamiento de la economia en las ultimas decadas del siglo XX? Se puede asegurar que la baja de la desocupacion sea concordante con el aumento de los salarios nominales? O viceversa? Estos interrogantes han sido la base para el desarrollo de este trabajo, analizando los instrumentos utilizados por el Estado para definir y mantener la politica macroeconomica de acuerdo al objetivo politico aplicado por cada gobierno a lo largo de las ultimas decadas del siglo XX y primeros anos del presente. La alteracion del salario y la desocupacion no dependen de comportamientos estructurales fijados por determinadas escuelas, sino mas bien son resultado de la gestacion de nuevos ciclos en el contexto internacional y la participacion directa o indirecta de ese cambio que se visualiza en paises en desarrollo. Los cambios en la Argentina han sido contradictorios en dos etapas, 1946-1975 y 1976-2004. La medicion de Alban W. Phillips respecto a la relacion inversa entre la tasa de desempleo y las tasas de crecimiento de salarios monetarios en Inglaterra entre 1861 y 1957 es una pieza clave del analisis de la politica macroeconomica. Milton Friedman (Escuela de Chicago) ha sido su principal opositor, aunque como tal ha encontrado su fracaso por los cambios suscitados a comienzos de la decada del 70 en el campo economico internacional. Este trabajo revela que en la Argentina, durante 58 anos, ante crecimientos economicos de alta performance, la mayor ocupacion es acompanada por aumentos salariales o, contrariamente, el aumento del desempleo juega un rol antagonico con el salario. En definitiva, es la politica de Estado la que define la distribucion del ingreso con mayor o menor equidad, tomando a la pendiente de la Curva como un instrumento que no debe ser dejado de lado a fin de lograr un mayor equilibrio de la piramide social."

In recent decades the American economy has experienced the worst peace-time inflation in its history and the highest unemployment rate since the Great Depression. These circumstances have prompted renewed interest in the concept of business cycles, which Joseph Schumpeter suggested are "like the beat of the heart, of the essence of the organism that displays them." In The American Business Cycle, some of the most prominent macroeconomics in the United States focuses on the questions, To what extent are business cycles propelled by external shocks? How have post-1946 cycles differed from earlier cycles? And, what are the major factors that contribute to business cycles? They extend their investigation in some areas as far back as 1875 to afford a deeper understanding of both economic history and the most recent economic fluctuations. Seven papers address specific aspects of economic activity: consumption, investment, inventory change, fiscal policy, monetary behavior, open economy, and the labor market.
