Ha influenzato il Cinema europeo e in particolare, negli anni Cinquanta e Sessanta, la Nouvelle Vague francese. Con il Cinema Neorealista fanno carriera molti registi, come Luchino Visconti, Roberto Rossellini, Vittorio De Sica, Michelangelo Antonioni e Federico Fellini. In un'epoca in cui il Fascismo e la guerra avevano impoverito la vita della gente, i Neorealisti volevano ricordare con i loro film i difficili problemi politici e sociali, la situazione morale della popolazione ed i cambiamenti nella vita quotidiana in Italia. Il Cinema è stato uno strumento politico. I registi hanno rappresentato al tempo stesso la durezza e la bellezza della vita. Alcuni, come Antonioni, Rossellini o Visconti, si sono avvalsi del paesaggio, nello specifico del paesaggio della Pianura Padana, per rappresentare i loro temi. Questa tesina mostrerà che il paesaggio è stato un elemento importante nel Cinema Neorealista. Nello specifico la tesina si riferisce alla Pianura Padana, attraverso l'esempio di tre film. Il primo capitolo tratterà il Neorealismo in generale, il suo sviluppo, le sue influenze, le sue caratteristiche e i sui temi. Il secondo capitolo riguarderà il paesaggio della Pianura Padana nel Cinema Neorealista. Verrà chiarito il significato del termine paesaggio e la sua importanza nei film. Infine la tesina mostrerà perché la Pianura Padana è stata un elemento molto importante per il Neorealismo.

Per merito di Rossellini e De Sica, ma anche di De Santis, Visconti, Germi, Lattuada, Soldati, Castellani, Zampa e di titoli che in vario modo rientrano nel campo di tensioni del neorealismo, si assiste a una bruciante scoperta dell’Italia, con tutti i suoi problemi e la sua voglia di ripartire da zero.» Di fatto, il cinema italiano del dopoguerra riparte da zero e ridisegna interamente l’organizzazione dell’industria culturale. Nel giro di poco la risorta Cinecittà stravincerà la lotta impari con il cinema americano, affiancando i capolavori del neorealismo a grandi successi di botteghino come le coproduzioni alla Quo vadis?, i film di Totò, le pellicole di Sofia Loren e Gina Lollobrigida.
