Vivimos en un mundo que es capaz de producir y poner en circulación cantidades ingentes de información, que además circulan a una enorme velocidad entre dos lugares cualesquiera de la Tierra, pero es precisamente esa capacidad de crear y difundir la información de todo tipo lo que hace posible que el mundo quede cada vez más envuelto en la noche y la niebla, y las personas estén cada vez más desorientadas y sean más fáciles de manipular en todos y cada uno de los aspectos de su vida. Quien controla la información en la economía, las redes del poder militar y el conocimiento científico técnico es quien puede controlar el mundo manipulando las leyes. Por eso se puede decir que quizás estemos entrando en una nueva era histórica que pudiese merecer el título de fascismo cognitivo. Tales son las líneas principales que se abordan a lo largo de este libro. En su primera parte, se trata de cómo los usuarios de las tecnologías de la información se creen más libres porque pueden disponer de más datos de un modo muy eficaz. Sin embargo, no se dan cuenta de que son esos medios los que crean los mensajes, no sólo en su forma sino también en sus contenidos. Y que, al admitir los formatos digitales, sus usuarios, que no son más que clientes en un mercado específico, cambian sus formas de pensar, expresarse, e incluso de vivir, para poder estar integrados en algo que se llama la red no por casualidad. Es esa red que actúa en la economía –que es el poder real que mueve al mundo y las relaciones del poder militar– la que ha contribuido, degradando el nivel del pensamiento y la calidad de la información, a convertir la vida política en general y más en concreto la vida política española en una impostura. En la segunda parte del libro se aborda cómo la información y el tiempo han matado a la memoria y, con ella, al conocimiento y a la libertad que sólo se puede conquistar colectivamente partiendo de él. Los usuarios de móviles y medios digitales, que están hiperconectados en cada instante y obsesionados por disponer cada día del medio más potente en el procesado de la información, son precisamente por eso las víctimas de estos sistemas y los clientes cautivos de unos gigantescos mercados globales, cuyas dimensiones financieras son difíciles de imaginar. En la tercera parte del libro, se mostrará cómo las realidades económicas y estratégicas globales, descritas en las dos primeras partes, confluyen en la historia de los últimos quince años de nuestro país.

"Nineteen Eighty-Four: A Novel", often published as "1984", is a dystopian social science fiction novel by English novelist George Orwell. It was published on 8 June 1949 by Secker & Warburg as Orwell's ninth and final book completed in his lifetime.
