Le pharmacien d'officine est confronté très régulièrement à des patients atteints de troubles du sommeil. Il est souvent le premier professionnel de santé vu par les patients de part sa facilité d'accessibilité. Nous allons essayer d'expliquer les mécanismes du sommeil et les troubles qui en découlent quand celui-ci n'est pas respecté, puis nous montrerons la prise en charge de l'insomnie en France et le rôle du pharmacien dans celle-ci.

Patients with movement disorders nearly always present as outpatients but, as aptly recognized by Drs. Frucht and Fahn, this may include acute manifestations leading to emergency presentations, often in an emergency room setting, where they are very likely to be unrecognized and therefore poorly managed. The authors define an “emergency” movement disorder as one in which failure to promptly diagnose and treat may result in significant morbidity or mortality. However, they also stress the importance of certain “can’t miss” diagnoses such as Wilson’s disease, dopa-responsive dystonia, and Whipple’s disease in which delayed diagnosis in less emergent situations can lead to slowly evolving and often irreversible neurological damage with tragic consequences.

Apres une description de ses symptomes, l'auteur precise les exercices qu'il a developpe; afin de gerer la majorite des symptomes associes aux TDF. Le livre comporte une revue de litterature qui compte six sections : les critres de Rome, qui se veulent une reconnaissance internationale du diagnostic, de la terminologie et des traitements associes aux TDF; la description et les traitements proposes, medicaux ou non, pour les maux les plus frequents (flatulence, reflux, constipation, diarrhee, migraine, anxiete, etc.). Il traite aussi des causes connues de maux de ventre (alimentation, allergies, maladies, etc.), ainsi que de certaines hypotheses recentes visant a; comprendre les TDF (systeme nerveux central, traumatismes, psychosomatique, depression). Il presente aussi des exercices proposes par d'autres auteurs; et ce que l'on peut prendre pour soulager certains symptomes (medicaments, phytotherapie, alimentation, supplements alimentaires).
