This book presents a collection of studies on the circulation of Jean Piaget’s ideas and works between Europe and Latin America, and how this transnational legacy influenced different fields of research and practice, such as psychology, education and philosophy. The volume brings together contributions presented at the International Colloquium Jean Piaget in Brazil and Latin America, held during the 38th Annual Helena Antipoff Meeting, organized by the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, in collaboration with the University of Geneva, Switzerland. The book is organized in three parts. Chapters in the first part analyze Piaget’s role as a builder of an international network in psychology, education and peace promotion in the 20th century, with a special focus on the circulation of his ideas and works between Switzerland and France. The second part focuses on historical and contemporary dialogues, conflicts and controversies between Piaget and other authors, such as Henri Wallon, Carl Rogers, Jürgen Habermas, and, especially, Helena Antipoff, the Russian-Brazilian psychologist and educator who was one of the first researchers to introduce Piaget in Brazil and to establish a bridge between Latin America and the Geneva school of psychological and educational sciences. Finally, chapters in the third part of the book explore different aspects of the reception and appropriation of Piaget’s works and ideas in the Brazilian context. The Transnational Legacy of Jean Piaget: A View from the 21st Century will be of interest to researchers in different fields within the human and social sciences, such as developmental, educational and school psychologists; educators; philosophers and historians of psychology and education interested in understanding how Piaget’s progressist ideas have contributed to the development of psychological and educational sciences in Europe and Latin America. Some chapters of this book were originally written in Portuguese and French and translated into English with the help of artificial intelligence. A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content.

La scuola media italiana è stata – sin dall’avvìo – un oggetto ‘doppio’ della ricerca educativa: da un lato “ventre molle” – sociale, professionale, didattico – del nostro sistema scolastico, dall’altro dichiarata come l’unica, vera riforma scolastica della nostra Repubblica, dove il ‘vera’ sta ad indicare – pur con qualche riserva – un giudizio ampiamente positivo, con rare voci discordi. Un’ambivalenza che giustifica l’interesse per un’indagine mirata a comprendere le ragioni di questo doppio. Che fin dal dibattito fu motivo di divisione fra chi sosteneva la tesi risultata vincente con la L. 1859/1962, che affidava la scuola media ai professori, e quanti preferivano la postelementare assegnata ai maestri: una disputa che vide in prima linea Vittorino Chizzolini e «Scuola Italiana Moderna». Il libro ricostruisce lo sfondo storico di quella disputa, documenta la dialettica interna all’editrice La Scuola e ne identifica le matrici teoriche e le ispirazioni sociali e religiose. Si mettono in luce così le priorità che indussero i protagonisti dell’evento a strategie d’intervento opposte e le ragioni di un insuccesso che fa della nostra scuola un sistema tuttora incompiuto. Fin dagli anni '50 Danilo Dolci ha saputo costruire una rete di collaboratori, intellettuali e non, che si sono interrogati in profondità sul senso del comunicare e sulle sue implicazioni sociali, politiche e quindi umane. La tesi di questo saggio, pubblicato per la prima volta nel 1988, attinge proprio da questo lungo e intenso lavoro di confronto e di riflessione, e si può riassumere così «La comunicazione di massa non esiste!». Non è un vezzo linguistico perché Dolci ne deriva che «per comunicare non basta l'iniziativa del singolo: occorre l'attivo corrispondere di un altro, di altri». Pertanto la comunicazione interpersonale è frutto di un reciproco adattamento creativo, mentre l'educazione non si riduce a trasmettere un sapere da una generazione all'altra, ma è una conversazione d'amore reciproco nella quale si scopre il potere creativo della parola. E se la creatività non si trasmette, ognuno di noi, potendola sperimentare, se ne può però arricchire. Danilo Dolci denuncia i danni derivanti in ogni ambito da rapporti unidirezionali, trasmissivi, violenti, e propone l'alternativa della comunicazione, della maieutica reciproca, della nonviolenza. Non si stanca di sottolineare la distinzione tra dominio e potere, in quanto il dominio genera una società violenta. Un libro fondamentale per ottenere una padronanza personale ed effettiva su ciò che impariamo, per affrontare problemi, domande e questioni con la logica della ricerca e quindi produrre un'effettiva conoscenza. Il libro è permeato da una tensione educativa per guidare verso una profonda coscienza delle proprie competenze, liberarci delle personali insufficienze e superare gli stereotipi in cui siamo calati. Solo in questo modo le persone avranno la giusta fiducia per muoversi non a rimorchio ma con le proprie forze, imparando a «pilotarsi» come veri protagonisti del proprio destino. Questa terza edizione viene riproposta con un'ampia introduzione di Daniele Novara, pedagogista e fondatore del Centro Psicopedagogico per la Pace di Piacenza, che presenta i tratti fondamentali del pensiero del grande pedagogista.
