Qu’est-ce qui fait la particularité de la recherche collaborative au sein de la famille des méthodes qualitatives en sciences humaines et sociales? Certes, elle se fonde sur un principe central qui est celui de la collaboration entre des chercheurs et d’autres acteurs de la scène sociale. Mais « collaborer » doit s’entendre dans quel sens et pour quelles finalités? Pourquoi ne dirait-on pas coopérer ou participer? En quoi peut-on différencier la recherche collaborative d’autres méthodes « impliquantes » telles la recherche-action ou l’observation participante? Et si collaborer nécessite pour le chercheur de s’engager un peu plus? Mais alors, comment peut-il encore prétendre participer à une activité scientifique? N’est-il pas alors voué à être l’instrument d’intentions qui ne sont pas les siennes? Sinon, quel est alors son statut et celui des autres collaborateurs? On reproche parfois aux recherches participatives leur côté engagé, comme si cet engagement était incompatible avec une rigueur sur le plan scientifique. Encouragé par des politiques scientifiques, ce type de recherche pourrait être sujet à un usage instrumental limitant sa portée transformatrice. This book addresses a key issue in higher learning, university education and scientific research: the widespread difficulty researchers, experts and students from all disciplines face when trying to contribute to change in complex social settings characterized by uncertainty and the unknown. More than ever, researchers need flexible means and grounded theory to combine people-based and evidence-based inquiry into challenging situations that keep evolving and do not lend themselves to straightforward technical explanations and solutions. In this book, the authors propose innovative strategies for engaged inquiry building on insights from many disciplines and lessons from the history of Participatory Action Research (PAR), including French psychosociology. The ongoing evolution of PAR has had a lasting legacy in fields ranging from community development to education, public engagement, natural resource management and problem solving in the workplace.
