Este libro nace del propósito de analizar la Constitución de 1917 como objeto de memoria, precisamente a raíz de la conmemoración de los 100 años de su promulgación y a partir del principio de la simultaneidad entre su construcción, como texto legislativo y como símbolo de las conquistas revolucionarias. En la historia de México, la promulgación, en el mes de febrero, de la "Constitución de 1917", en la ciudad de Querétaro, conllevó el nacimiento de un nuevo imaginario que a lo largo del tiempo refuerza su impacto, guía e interfiere en sus rumbos, legitima a los grupos que lo generan y se legitima desde las instituciones. Nuestro caso de estudio se centra principalmente alrededor del año de 1917 para mostrar el contexto, los ámbitos y los elementos que circundaban e interactuaban con el proceso que culminó con la promulgación del texto constitucional. Para probar su pervivencia y consolidación en el imaginario cívico posrevolucionario y dar luz sobre las variantes interpretativas, los modos de representación y los juegos de poder en dichos transcursos consagratorios, incluimos además en nuestra temporalidad algunos momentos posteriores, representativos del proceso y de su mutación simbólica.

The selection of papers reprinted here traces the development of syntax from structural linguistics through transformational linguistics to operator gram mar. These three are not opposing views or independent assumptions about language. Rather, they are successive stages of investigation into the word combinations which constitue the sentences of a language in contrast to those which do not. Throughout, the goal has been to find the systemati cities of these combinations, and then to obtain each sentence in a uniform way from its parts. In structural analysis, the parts were words (simple or complex, belonging to particular classes) or particular sequences of these. In transformational analysis, it is found that the parts of a sentence are elementary sentences, whose parts in turn are simple words of particular classes. The relation between these two analyses is seen in the existence of an intermediate stage between the two, presented in paper 4, From Morpheme to Utterance. A further intermediate stage is presented in the writer's String Analysis of Sentence Structure, Papers on Formal Linguistics I, Mouton, The Hague 1962 (though it was developed after transformations, as a syntactic rep resentation for computational analysis). Generalization of both of these analyses leads to operator grammar, in which each sentence is derived in a uniform way as a partial ordering of the originally simple words which enter into it: Each step (least upper bound) of the partial ordering (of a word requiring another) forms a sentence which is a component of the sentence being analyzed.

Michel Meyer offers a new beginning for philosophy rooted in a theory of questioning that he calls "problematology." Meyer argues that a new beginning is necessary in order to resituate philosophy, science, and linguistic analysis, and he proposes a global view of rationality by returning to the nature of questioning itself. For Meyer, philosophy does not solve problems or give answers but instead shows how propositions are related to a whole field of questions that give them meaning. Reason is identified not with answers but with the question-answer process.
