Ce livre a pour ambition de mettre à la portée de chacun les grands acquis de la science, y compris les plus difficiles. Dans cette affaire, mon ambition ultime est de parvenir à faire aimer la science à tout le monde, y compris ceux qui ne la pratiquent pas. J'ose même espérer faire partager à certains l'extraordinaire plaisir intellectuel que nous éprouvons, nous autres scientifiques, à la pratiquer. Un succès même partiel dans cette direction serait pour moi une immense récompense.
