Il ciclo della vita (e della morte) non può essere che femminile. L'uomo ha relazioni, la donna è relazione, il suo corpo è fatto per due, anche se non genera. L'uomo ha una soggettività, la donna ne ha due (l'Io e la specie). L'uomo ha affetti, la donna ama. Questo amare, assai prima di essere sentimento, è una forma cognitiva ignota all'uomo, che per legittimarsi ha bisogno di istituire saperi. Eppure, se ascoltiamo Agostino, non si conoscerà mai nulla se non tramite l'amore (non intratur in veritatem nisi per caritatem).

Besides tracing the evolution of representations through both art and popular films, this book also analyses connections with consumer culture, film criticism and politics. Giori uncovers how complicated negotiations between challenges to and valorization of dominant forms of knowledge of homosexuality shaped representations and argues that they were not always the outcome of hatred but also sought to convey unmentionable pleasures and complicities. Through archival research and a survey of more than 600 films, the author enriches our understanding of thirty years of Italian film and cultural history.

To place animals within the realm of nature, means inserting them among the articulations of culture and the social. Semiotics has never avoided this chiasmus, choosing to deal from the outset with the problem of the languages of animals following the old admonition of Montaigne: it is not that animals do not talk, it is us who do not understand them. Recent research in the field of the anthropology of nature and sociology of sciences and techniques allow to think about the Zoosemiotic issue in a different way.
