En esta obra conoceremos cómo la tercera vía, busca cimentar las bases de la idea de Buena Sociedad a través del equilibrio entre los conceptos de orden social y autonomía, sustentándose en una visión antropológica del ser humano, en la que la integración a la vida en comunidades permite la realización individual, fomentando la internalización de los principios y los valores colectivos. Desde su propuesta social y política se reflexiona sobre el papel de la familia, las escuelas y las comunidades, entendidas como los fundamentos esenciales de lo que se denomina infraestructura moral, diseñando un paradigma ético en el cual las personas son tratadas como fines y no como meros instrumentos, con el objetivo de encontrar el bien común, presentando la idea central de una teoría propositiva y renovadora de la actividad y la teoría de las ciencias políticas. Es Abogado de la Universidad Libre de Barranquilla, consultor, estratega y analista político, experto en opinión pública y campañas electorales,escritor, poeta, investigador y conferencista internacional, con especialización en Sistemas y Procesos Electorales de la Universidad Central de Venezuela, especialista en Orígenes del Cristianismo de la Universidad de Valladolid, España. Magíster en Teología de la Universidad Católica Santa Rosa y Doctor (PhD) en Ciencias Políticas de la Universidad Central de Venezuela. Es profesor universitario, en Derecho, Criminología, Política Criminal, Filosofía del Derecho, Administración Pública, Ciencias Políticas, Teología y Comunicación Social, entre otras asignaturas en Pregrado y Posgrado. Ha sido Decano de la Facultad de Ciencias Teológicas de la Universidad Católica Santa Rosa, Decano de la Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Director del Instituto de Altos Estudios Jurídicos, Políticos, Económicos y Sociales, de La Universidad Autónoma del Caribe. Building on her seminal contribution to social theory in Culture and agency, Margaret Archer develops here her morphogenetic approach, applying it to the problem of structure and agency. Since structure and agency constitute different levels of stratified social reality, each possesses distinctive emergent properties which are real and causally efficacious but irreducible to one another. The problem, therefore, is shown to be how to link the two rather than conflate them, as has been common practice - whether in upwards conflation (by the aggregation of individual acts) downwards conflation (through the structural orchestration of agents), or, more recently, in central conflation which holds the two to be mutually constitutive and thus precludes any examination of their interplay by eliding them. Realist social theory: the morphogenetic approach thus not only rejects methodological individualism and collectivism, but argues that the debate between them has been replaced by a new one between elisionary theorizing (such as Giddens' structuration theory) and the emergentist theories based on a realist ontology of the social world. The morphogenetic approach is the sociological complement of transcendental realism, and together they provide a basis for non-conflationary theorizing which is also of direct utility to the practising social analyst.

Conscience, once a core concept for ethics, has mostly disappeared from modern moral theory. In this book Douglas Langston traces its intellectual history to account for its neglect while arguing for its still vital importance, if correctly understood. In medieval times, Langston shows in Part I, the notions of &"conscientia&" and &"synderesis&" from which our contemporary concept of conscience derives were closely connected to Greek ideas about the virtues and practical reason, although in Christianized form. As modified by Luther, Butler, and Kant, however, conscience later came to be regarded as a faculty like will and intellect, and when faculty psychology fell into disrepute, so did the role of conscience in moral philosophy. A view of mature conscience that sees it as relational, with cognitive, emotional, and conative dimensions, can survive the criticisms of conscience as faculty. In Part II, through discussions of Freud, Ryle, and other modern thinkers, Langston proceeds to reconstruct conscience as a viable philosophical concept. Finally, in Part III, this better grounded concept is connected with the modern revival of virtue ethics, and Langston shows how crucial conscience is to a theory of virtue because it is fundamental to the training of any morally good person.
