El autor (o autores) intima(n) a sus lectores a abandonar las peligrosas rutas de la curiosidad intelectual y la libertad de pensamiento (3,21-24) y a acatar la disciplina del sometimiento a la Ley. Queda abortada así el ansia por el cultivo de la inteligencia emocional y de la experiencia estética que definían a la antigua sabiduría global y globalizadora, para la que la meta no era el hogar, sino el camino. La propuesta de Ben Sira de una ortopraxis exógena generaba sin remedio la regresión a un estéril infantilismo religioso. De algún modo, se puede decir que Jesús Ben Sira representa el declive y la muerte de la sabiduría en el seno del judaísmo.

In this book, Howard Caygill conducts the first ever systematic analysis of 'resistance': as a means of defying political oppression, in its relationship with military violence and its cultural representation. Beginning with the militaristic doctrine of Clausewitz and the evolution of a new model of guerrilla warfare to resist the forces of Napoleonic France, On Resistance elucidates and critiques the contributions of seminal resistant thinkers from Marx and Nietzsche to Mao, Gandhi, Sartre and Fanon to identify continuities of resistance and rebellion from the Paris Commune to the Greenham Women's Peace Camp.
