Il Mediterraneo è da sempre un’area di primissimo interesse per la Turchia. Vi si affaccia con un’importante linea costiera e rappresenta un bacino naturale in cui si intersecano sia interessi condivisi che linee di frattura con partner europei e Stati rivieraschi. In questa stessa regione affondano anche le storiche radici culturali e diplomatiche con l’Italia, con cui Ankara vanta importanti complementarità strategiche. Il volume, curato dall’Osservatorio Turchia del CeSPI, affida ad accademici e ricercatori di eccezione il compito di mettere in luce, grazie a un’attenta lettura dell’evoluzione storica delle logiche domestiche e dei cambiamenti intercorsi nel paese, le costanti e le linee di frattura nella politica regionale di Ankara, e individuare le linee strategiche della politica turca, non tralasciando l’approfondimento teorico del contesto interno e l’analisi di case studies che hanno segnato importanti turning point nell’agenda regionale di Ankara. Il più recente revisionismo, facendo perno sull’annosa e pendente questione di Cipro, ha destato non poche preoccupazioni agli occhi dei partner occidentali ed è il riflesso della nuova sintesi domestica della Yeni ve Güçlü Türkiye (Nuova e Forte Turchia) del presidente Erdoğan. Gettare luce in modo sistemico sull’evoluzione dell’attivismo regionale di Ankara è, dunque, un passo dovuto, utile non solo a comprendere la psicologia sociale del paese e le ragioni di alcune scelte strategiche e politiche, ma anche a delineare scenari futuri, soprattutto nello spirito della grande amicizia e complementarità esistente tra Italia e Turchia, paesi che fanno della comune appartenenza mediterranea un punto di forza delle proprie relazioni.

La regione del Mediterraneo è sempre più instabile e uno degli attori che si è indubbiamente ritagliato un ruolo predominante è la Turchia. L’obiettivo di questo volume, il terzo lavoro di analisi prodotto da OISMed (Osservatorio ICSA sulla Sicurezza nel Mediterraneo), è quello di focalizzarsi sul ruolo di Ankara nei diversi scenari e di comprenderne le dinamiche di intervento e gli interessi. Infatti, con le operazioni militari in Siria e altre più ridotte in Iraq la Turchia continua la sua lotta contro i curdi, ma è anche diventata un attore centrale per la stabilità siriana. Tali operazioni hanno anche permesso ad Ankara di avere rapporti privilegiati con Mosca. La Turchia è poi uno stato che sta vagliando varie strade per la sua sicurezza energetica in particolare in Libia e nell’Egeo. Infine, da diversi anni Ankara ha anche inaugurato una strategia di penetrazione diplomatico-militare in Africa che gli ha permesso di aumentare sensibilmente la sua presenza nel continente, il suo peso specifico e il suo giro di affari. Il testo cerca quindi di offrire un’immagine completa di queste e altre dinamiche della politica estera turca.
