Durante la ausencia de la Presidente, que el año último dio una vuelta por Inglaterra y los Estados Unidos, recayó en mí la obligación de dirigir en Adyar las reuniones de estudiantes, a quienes respondí centenares de preguntas, dándoles varias explicaciones sueltas que tomadas taquigráficamente han servido para componer esta obra. Sucedió algunas veces que lo dicho en la conversación se publicó después en forma de artículo en El Teósofo o en El Boletín Adyar, y en tales casos preferí reproducir el artículo a valerme de las notas taquigráficas, pues tenía la ventaja de estar corregido y ampliado. Forzosamente ha de ser fragmentaria una obra de esta índole y por necesidad ha de contener no pocas repeticiones, aunque hemos procurado eliminarlas en todo lo posible. Muchos de los temas en ella tratados los traté ya en mis primeras obras; pero lo en ésta escrito es siempre el resultado de las últimas indagaciones sobre el asunto. — Charles Leadbeater.
