Las preguntas que han surgido, han obtenido respuestas gracias al estudio, a la investigación y al apoyo en la ciencia. Sin embargo, existen algunas interrogantes a las que diversas culturas se han enfrentado y que no han podido responder acudiendo a la ciencia; ¿cómo se creó el universo? ¿De dónde surge el ser humano? Y ¿qué sucede después de morir? Es ahí donde el hombre ha necesitado recurrir a la imaginación y proponer para dar respuestas. La muerte es, en términos simples, el destino imperioso de cada ser vivo y se define como el término de la vida. Pero más allá de la perspectiva científica el ser humano ha establecido una relación de temor con ésta. “La muerte” es una de las palabras que más agobian al ser humano. En primer lugar y desde tiempos ancestrales, pensar en la muerte ocasiona en el hombre un sentimiento de turbación, ya que ésta representa una amenaza contra la vida e instintivamente el ser humano reacciona con recelo ante el hecho de perderla. Para el mundo occidental esta forma de ver la muerte no ha cambiado su naturaleza, la muerte nos envuelve a todos, con escasas diferencias, en un ambiente de tristeza. No obstante, no para todos la muerte es sinónimo de tristeza. Este trabajo, dedicado al significado de la muerte para el mexiquense contemporáneo, tiene como propósito mostrar su perspectiva actual, la cual no es del todo desconocida, pero a veces poco comprendida, porque se enfrenta a ella de una manera muy particular.
