The concept of discipleship in Matthew has been explained in several ways using different identity defining terms from the gospel. Such as one who does the will of God, one who practises the greater righteousness, one who becomes like a child, one who carries the cross etc.. The present study identifies the extensively but selectively used relational appellation Father for God in the gospel as the most important key for understanding the identity of the disciples. By examining all the passages where this appellation is used to refer to god as the father of the disciples, this study shows that discipleship is viewed in Matthew as a process of becoming children of God. Five different dimensions of discipleship - christological, ecclesiological, missiological, eschatological, and ethical -are integrated in this study. Discipleship is a process of becoming children of god: through Jesus, the son, one can become a child of god (christological); by responding affirmatively to jesus and to his message one enters the earthly family of God and continues his/her journey with other brothers and sisters (ecclesiological); through their life witness and teachings the disciples attract and invite other people to join them in their process of becoming children of God (missiological ); one becomes irrevocably a child of God only in the kingdom (eschatological); to reach this state one should do the will of God and practise the greater righteousness (ethical).

English summary: The tense relationship between 'prophecy' and 'monarchy' in view of the search for the true word of JHWH is present throughout the Books of Kings. How can one be certain that the prophets are really preaching the word of JHWH authentically? Due to the fact that it claims to preach the word of God, prophecy is always a controversial subject. In the main texts of the Books of Kings (1 Kings 13 and 22), various specialists on the communication with God discuss the preaching of God's word and in doing so intervene in political conflicts in an argumentative manner. In this work, Barbara Schmitz studies these various perspectives in a narratological-historical methodology which she has developed and in an interdisciplinary discussion with literary studies. German description: Die spannungsreiche Beziehung zwischen 'Prophetie' und 'Konigtum' angesichts der Suche nach dem wahren Wort JHWHs durchzieht die Konigsbucher: Wie kann sichergestellt werden, dass die Propheten das Wort JHWHs tatsachlich authentisch vertreten? Diese grundlegende Frage steht im Zentrum zweier Erzahlungen der Konigsbucher: In 1 Kon 13 und 1 Kon 22 ringen unterschiedliche Propheten als Spezialisten der Gotteskommunikation miteinander kontrovers um das Wort JHWHs. Dabei thematisieren beide Erzahlungen dieses grundlegende Problem hochst differenziert und lassen dessen Ambivalenzen bestehen. Zugleich erweisen sich diese Stellen als Schlusseltexte fur die Zuordnung von Prophetie und Konigtum und eroffnen neue Perspektiven auf die Komposition und Entstehung der Konigsbucher. Zudem dienen beide Erzahlungen als exemplarisches Anwendungsfeld der zu Beginn der Studie entwickelten 'narratologisch-historischen Methodologie', die die Analyse der Perspektivenstrukturen ins Zentrum stellt. Dabei entwickelt Barbara Schmitz zum einen ein Instrumentarium zur Analyse der in der biblischen Exegese bislang vernachlassigten 'Erzahlstimme'. Angesichts der derzeit kontroversen Diskussion in der alttestamentlichen Exegese schlagt sie im interdisziplinaren Gesprach mit den Literaturwissenschaften zum anderen einen Weg vor, wie aus der Perspektive der meist werkimmant konzipierten und ahistorisch wahrgenommenen 'synchronen' Erzahltextanalyse eine 'diachrone' Einordnung biblischer Texte vorgenommen werden kann.
