The Laminar system is a means of supplying preheated ventilation air to individual rooms in a house. The system consists of a triple glazed window which draws outdoor air into the house; a central exhaust fan and humidity controlled air inlets in each room; and baseboard heaters to supply the fluctuating heat demands of the rooms. This report summarizes the work on a project to demonstrate and monitor the performance of the system installed in a newly constructed house in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The project identified the benefits and deficiencies of using the system in new energy efficient housing by conducting one time/pre-occupancy measurements of airtightness and air infilitration and carrying out continuous monitoring under normal occupancy conditions of various temperatures, relative humidities and exhaust fan flow rates.

This report summarizes the work on a project undertaken for the Project Implementation Division under the Housing Technology Incentives Program. The objective of the project was to identify both the benefits and deficiencies of employing the Laminar Air Flow Super Window/Humidiy Controlled Air Inlet/Baseboard Heater system in new energy-efficient housing in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Onetime/pre-occupancy measurements of airtightness and air filtration were conducted and continuous monitoring of various temperatures, relative humidities and exhaust fan flow rates were carried out under normal occupancy conditions. The LAFSW/HCAI/BH system was found to perform reasonably well in heating and ventilating the house. However, some difficulties were encountered and further development of the controlled air inlets will be required. The HCAIs that were used did not restrict air flow sufficiently in the closed position....
