In this guide I will walk you through the process of turning an old laptop into an always-on server. You can use it to run web applications in the comfort of your own home or office - no "cloud" required. Together we will configure the entire server: you will learn how to install CentOS, Apache, PHP and MySQL (or MariaDB) and WordPress. I will show you how you can reach your server from other computers on the network and how to create regular backups too. This book is perfect for the Linux newbie and those who want to get started with web applications without spending money "in the cloud" (which is - in my personal opinion - THE WORST expression for describing remote computers).

Identifying and selecting the most appropriate animal model is a challenge, but the U.S. Federal Government’s National Institutes of Health, has supported several efforts to make the job of finding disease models easier. These efforts began with support for databases about specific species, and have graduated to support for discipline-specific studies and cross-species resources. This article tracks LAMHDI, the initiative to Link Animal Models to Human DIsease (www.lamhdi.org), which brings together data about five species: flies, mice, rats, yeast, and zebrafish, and allows scientists to search across these data, principally by disease and gene. This chapter explains how LAMHDI was conceived, and where LAMHDI hopes to go in moving into phenotypical as well as genotypical data through networks and visualization.

***** "one of the funniest books I have read in a long time" Pip is smart, sassy and drop-dead insensitive. She's completely unsuited to a job in the funeral industry and her new small-town business won't survive if she doesn't learn a few 'people' skills - fast. When she starts accusing the locals of a murderous conspiracy - well they'd rather invite the serial killer in for tea and cake than trust an outsider. Jaimes Everest, her largest competitor, seems determined to strike a deal, but when he reveals a surprising truth about his deceased wife, Pip believes he might be slightly unhinged. And why is it, slightly unhinged seems so damn attractive to her? With one foot in the grave and one foot in her mouth, can Pip find a niche market in the funeral business, uncover a killer and find friendships worth risking everything for…without having to join the netball team? I Bury Dead People is a cosy tale with a touch of romance, a touch of mystery and a hearse load of laughter. PRAISE FOR PJ VYE “This is an entertaining, feel good, chick-lit novel which I enjoyed enough to finish in one sitting.” "I absolutely adored the ending, and I fell in love. This is a great story, and I highly recommend it." “I should have been sleeping, but instead was hooked…”

Billionaire, visionary, architect and engineer, Dr. Marko Marmilic, has changed the world in unimaginable ways. From his cutting-edge inventions in bio-genetics and cellular rejuvenation, to mechanical design and space-age metallurgy, he's been labeled "the Nikola Tesla of the modern age." But his newest technological breakthrough is, by far, his most ambitious, and most controversial. Marmilic has been commissioned to develop a machine that will change the entire geopolitical landscape in a way no one could possibly envision. He has developed a land vehicle that can travel at Hypersonic speeds - an alien-looking super cycle called the Sonic One, that can reach Mach 15 by harnessing the Earth's magnetic fields. Invisible to radar, exponentially faster than any fighter jet, drone, or missile - and it can do this – without making a sound. Equally impressive is the rider's revolutionary suit of bio-synthetic armor that can protect a human body from incineration at those speeds. In his eyes, a fleet of Sonic vehicles could transport food, medical supplies and life-saving equipment to the neediest countries in a matter of minutes, saving hundreds of millions of lives the world over. But to those financing this TOP SECRET scientific miracle, there is a more insidious objective, and to them there is only one person who will operate the machine - Chris Kordell, a full-torso quadriplegic who has just awoken from a two-year coma. He has no idea where he is, what happened to him, or why he's surrounded by strange scientists. Worst still, he has no clue that he's been chosen to transform Marmilic's vision of altruistic life into one of the most deadly instruments of war ever imagined.

A comprehensive political and design theory of planetary-scale computation proposing that The Stack—an accidental megastructure—is both a technological apparatus and a model for a new geopolitical architecture. What has planetary-scale computation done to our geopolitical realities? It takes different forms at different scales—from energy and mineral sourcing and subterranean cloud infrastructure to urban software and massive universal addressing systems; from interfaces drawn by the augmentation of the hand and eye to users identified by self—quantification and the arrival of legions of sensors, algorithms, and robots. Together, how do these distort and deform modern political geographies and produce new territories in their own image? In The Stack, Benjamin Bratton proposes that these different genres of computation—smart grids, cloud platforms, mobile apps, smart cities, the Internet of Things, automation—can be seen not as so many species evolving on their own, but as forming a coherent whole: an accidental megastructure called The Stack that is both a computational apparatus and a new governing architecture. We are inside The Stack and it is inside of us. In an account that is both theoretical and technical, drawing on political philosophy, architectural theory, and software studies, Bratton explores six layers of The Stack: Earth, Cloud, City, Address, Interface, User. Each is mapped on its own terms and understood as a component within the larger whole built from hard and soft systems intermingling—not only computational forms but also social, human, and physical forces. This model, informed by the logic of the multilayered structure of protocol “stacks,” in which network technologies operate within a modular and vertical order, offers a comprehensive image of our emerging infrastructure and a platform for its ongoing reinvention. The Stack is an interdisciplinary design brief for a new geopolitics that works with and for planetary-scale computation. Interweaving the continental, urban, and perceptual scales, it shows how we can better build, dwell within, communicate with, and govern our worlds. thestack.org

How we can harness cutting-edge biology and manufacturing to fight waste and pollution. In Nature, there is little chemical waste; nearly every atom is a resource to be utilized by organisms, ensuring that all the available matter remains in a perpetual cycle. By contrast, human systems of energy production and manufacturing are linear; the end product is waste. In Brave Green World, Chris Forman and Claire Asher show what our linear systems can learn from the efficient circularity of ecosystems. They offer an unblinkered yet realistic and positive vision of a future in which we can combine biology and manufacturing to solve our central problems of waste and pollution.

Human Cognitive Neuropsychology Classic Edition written by Andrew W. Ellis and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-14 with Psychology categories.
Cognitive neuropsychology seeks to understand impairments of specific cognitive functions in relation to a model of normal cognitive processing. The conclusions drawn from the study of abnormal processes are in turn used in the development and testing of theories of normal cognition. First published in 1988, this seminal book represented an attempt to synthesize and systematize progress in the study of cognitive neuropsychology and therefore provides an important snapshot of the field at the time. In addition to reviewing different forms of impairment and discussing their implications for theories of normal function, this book also examines the empirical and theoretical foundations of the subject including the use of single-case studies and the assumptions that must be made about the mind and brain. This classic edition marks 25 years in print, and includes a brand new introduction written by the authors, Ellis and Young. The Augmented Edition of Human Cognitive Neuropsychology published in 1997 is also still available. This classic edition will be important reading for students of cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience and neuropsychology.
