La presente obra pretende ofrecer alternativas desde la perspectiva propia de las cooperativas ante los retos que presenta el mundo del trabajo. El eje central de la obra reside en considerar a las cooperativas como instrumento de política de empleo que posibilita una integración laboral y social adecuada. En concreto, en 27 capítulos, se tratan 6 líneas: (a) la inclusión laboral de colectivos desfavorecidos; (b) la adaptación del trabajo a las nuevas tecnologías; (c) el fomento del trabajo respetuoso con el medio ambiente; (d) la garantía de una protección social adecuada; (e) la organización de empresas; y (g) las estrategias administrativas de fomento e impulso del cooperativismo en las políticas de empleo, así como la adecuación de la normativa a la creación de un empleo de calidad. Se trata de una obra que cuenta con aportaciones de autores de reconocido prestigio en la materia, no solo en el Derecho español, sino que también en el Derecho comparado. En concreto, el lector podrá acercarse, además de al Derecho español, al Derecho francés, portugués, turco y cubano. En último término, se trata de una obra que aporta profundidad y dinamismo a las abundantes declaraciones que durante los últimos años se están realizando tanto a nivel estatal y autonómico como, a nivel internacional, en la Unión Europea, las Naciones Unidas, la OIT y la OCDE.

Los retos que actualmente presenta el mundo del trabajo son también retos para las cooperativas, que no solo están presentes en la sociedad, sino que también son para la sociedad. Así se deduce, precisamente, del séptimo principio cooperativo relativo al interés por la comunidad.
