Hans Khevenhüller nació en Spital (Carintia) en 1538 y murió en Madrid en 1606, ostentando el cargo de Embajador Imperial. Sus restos reposaron en los Jerónimos. A raíz del empeño del doctor Alfredo Alvar por traducir el Breve extracto de algunos escritos familiares recogidos por Hans Khevenhüller y, sobre todo, su propia autobiografía (traducciones de Mónica Sáinz Meister e Ingrid Cáceres Würsign), se nos alumbra el apasionante mundo de las relaciones diplomáticas de las dos ramas de la Casa de Austria y los avatares del día a día de nuestro protagonista, desde antes de ser orator ante Felipe II hasta más allá de su muerte, con el estudio de su pinacoteca y su biblioteca, por ejemplo. El Breve extracto es una excusa para ir más allá: se han estudiado por primera vez todos los envíos culturales entre Madrid y Viena/Praga desde los años 70 del siglo XVI en adelante; se han leído con profundidad los epistolarios de todos los embajadores de los Reyes Católicos (Felipe II y III) y los Emperadores, o incluso se han diseccionado los escritos diplomáticos españoles mandados y recibidos en Roma y Viena/Praga. La Europa de las cartas encriptadas y abiertas queda al descubierto y sus rutas, instrucciones y secretos desvelados. Igualmente, la fama y gloria de Hans fue ensalzada por su sobrino, también embajador, que se convierte en objeto de estudio de este libro, así como las estrategias familiares que conoció para sobrevivir en la Guerra de los Treinta Años, o la continuidad del apellido en la literatura e incluso el cine del siglo XX, entre otras cosas. Fruto de esta inmensa labor científica es el descubrimiento de algunos manuscritos de capital importancia y hasta ahora olvidados, así como la constante lección de método histórico que nos ofrece el profesor Alfredo Alvar.

Monografie se zaobírá tématem překladu verše ze španělštiny do češtiny na základě komparace verše originálu a verše překladu. Cílem bylo analyzovat Calderónovy polymetrické hry po veršové stránce, srovnat španělské a české versifikační systémy a následně analyzovat strategie českých překladatelů. Klíčovou část monografie představuje srovnávací versologická studie, která využívá statistické metody analýzy verše. Poslední kapitola je věnována úpravám textů při dramatizaci her. Autor na příkladu jednoho vybraného překladu odhaluje, jakým způsobem divadelní režiséři původní text, který je základem různých inscenací v několika českých divadlech, redukují a modifikují. Navzdory překladatelovu přesnému formálním řešení nerespektují výsledné inscenace polymetrii a závažně narušují strofické a nestrofické formy.

The Politics of Female Households is the first collection that seeks to integrate ladies-in-waiting into the master narrative of early modern court studies. Presenting evidence and analysis of the multifarious ways in which ‘women above stairs’ shaped the European courts of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, it argues for a re-assessment of their political influence. The cultural agency of ladies-in-waiting is viewed in the reflection of portraiture, pamphlets and masques: their political dealings and patronage are revealed through analysis of letters, family networks, career patterns, gift exchange and household structures, as well as their activities in the fields of intelligence-gathering and espionage. Travel in early modern Europe is frequently represented as synonymous with the institution of the Grand Tour, a journey undertaken by elite young males from northern Europe to the centres of the arts and antiquity in Italy. Taking a somewhat different perspective, this volume builds upon recent research that pushes beyond this narrow orthodoxy and which decentres Italy as the ultimate destination of European travellers. Instead, it explores a much broader pattern of travel, undertaken by people of varied backgrounds and with divergent motives for travelling. By tapping into current reactions against the reification of the Grand Tour as a unique and distinctive practice, this volume represents an important contribution to the ongoing process of resituating the Grand Tour as part of a wider context of travel and topographicalmwriting. Focusing upon practices of travel in northern and western Europe rather than in Italy, particularly in Britain, the Low Countries and Germany, the essays in this collection highlight how itineraries continually evolved in response to changing political, economic and intellectual contexts. In so doing, the reasons for travel in northern Europe are subjected to a similar level of detailed analysis as has previously only been directed on Italy. By doing this, the volume demonstrates the variety of travel experiences, including the many shorter journeys made for pleasure, health, education and business undertaken by travellers of varying age and background across the period. In this way the volume brings to the fore the experiences of varied categories of traveller – from children to businessmen – which have traditionally been largely invisible in the historiography of travel.
