Uno de los grandes retos de Occidente para sobrevivir en un siglo que luce desafiante y amenazador en todos los ámbitos es asumir con rigor, realismo, profundidad histórica, introspección espiritual y una gran imaginación las categorías políticas con las cuales se ha concebido política y económicamente el mundo en los últimos 200 años. En el mundo occidental posterior a la Segunda Guerra Mundial y de manera muy profunda después de los años ochenta, con un escenario geopolítico altamente favorable a los Estados Unidos, los dos referentes conceptuales y sus relatos ideológicos y valorativos para pensar el mundo han sido la democracia y el liberalismo de mercado. Estos dos pilares no solo han servido para generar un nivel de riqueza, bienestar y paz únicos en la historia de la humanidad. También permitieron concebir un orden cognitivo de tipo racional, legal y ahistórico para sostener un conjunto de supuestos legales, racionales y valorativos para pensar el sistema político y económico en un mundo democrático y liberal. Una de las ventajas y limitaciones de ambos conceptos es que remodelan la historia y el pasado, restándole importancia a todos los legados espirituales, orgánicos, sociológicos e históricos que modelaron a lo largo de milenios y siglos diferentes órdenes políticos. Sobre estos imperativos legales y racionales, las democracias liberales modelaron el mundo a su imagen y semejanza, para que este sirviera a sus intereses y respondiera conmovida a sus valores
