Un recorrido por el esplendor del modernismo interior y las arquitecturas de la vida privada En el primer capítulo se reflexiona sobre la importancia del espacio privado y su importancia dentro del movimiento modernista. El segundo capítulo está centrado en las artes decorativas, hasta aquel momento consideradas artes menores, pero a las que el modernismo da una gran importancia que se refleja en el mobiliario, joyas, pinturas, etc. El tercer capítulo corresponde a los cambios que afectaron a la moderna civilización urbana de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX y la relación con el nuevo arte moderno. El aumento del papel de los arquitectos, seguido por los artistas-decoradores, los mueblistas, industriales y artesanos relacionados con la construcción. En el capítulo cuatro, el más extenso, se tratan las construcciones de los hogares burgueses, los nuevos palacios aristocráticos (p. ej. la Casa Coll i Regàs en Mataró), las residencias de vecinos (La Buresa en Manresa), etc, y el siguiente capítulo es un recorrido por las casas de los poetas (Apel·les Mestres, Alexandre de Riquer y Joan Maragall), las casas-taller de artistas (p. ej. el Cau Ferrat, de Santiago Rusiñol) etc. En el sexto y último capítulo hablamos de la pintura entendida como una imagen de contexto social y personal, donde se seleccionan imágenes que establecen significativas tramas narrativas, historias de espacios domésticos y de ámbito privado. Teresa M. Sala Gran experta e investigadora de las «arquitecturas de la vida privada» de los siglos XIX y XX, especialmente en interiores, mobiliario y artes decorativas. Es estudiosa de las relaciones arte-literatura, desde el Romanticismo hasta el Surrealismo, y se ha centrado en investigación especialmente en el Simbolismo y el Esteticismo. This study explores how Spanish American modernista writers incorporated journalistic formalities and industry models through the crónica genre to advance their literary preoccupations. Through a variety of modernista writers, including José Martí, Amado Nervo, Manuel Gutiérrez Nájera and Rubén Darío, Reynolds argues that extra-textual elements – such as temporality, the material formats of the newspaper and book, and editorial influence – animate the modernista movement’s literary ambitions and aesthetic ideology. Thus, instead of being stripped of an esteemed place in the literary sphere due to participation in the market-based newspaper industry, journalism actually brought modernismo closer to the writers’ desired artistic autonomy. Reynolds uncovers an original philosophical and sociological dimension of the literary forms that govern modernista studies, situating literary journalism of the movement within historical, economic and temporal contexts. Furthermore, he demonstrates that journalism of the movement was eventually consecrated in book form, revealing modernista intentionality for their mass-produced, seemingly utilitarian journalistic articles. The Spanish American Crónica Modernista, Temporality, and Material Culture thereby enables a better understanding of how the material textuality of the crónica impacts its interpretation and readership.
