This collection adds to the critical transitional justice scholarship that calls for “transitional justice from below” and that makes visible the complex and oftentimes troubled entanglements between justice endeavours, locality, and memory-making. Focusing on the period 1990–2015, Nelly Richard denounces the politics and aesthetics of forgetting that have underpinned both the protracted transition out of dictatorship and the denial of justice to its survivors and victims. What are the perils and social costs of a culture of forgetting? What forms do memories of injustice take in newly formed democracies? How might a history of violence and an ethics of reparation be reconciled in post-autocratic societies? In addressing these and other questions, Richard exposes the abuses of the past and the present while also attending to the residues of memory that are manifested in street protests, literature, and the media, and in artistic practices from architecture and urban design to installation and film. While cultural artifacts can be powerful devices for resistance and critique, Richard argues that they can also be complicit in reproducing and collaborating with forms of institutional and political oblivion. En este volumen procuramos indagar las experiencias del exilio infantil y juvenil argentino acontecido cuando las familias debieron salir del país para escapar del terrorismo de Estado, colocando el foco en el análisis de algunas producciones literarias y artísticas. Bajo este horizonte comenzamos por preguntarnos por el alcance y los límites del término en cuestión: ¿en qué medida la idea de exilio consigue describir la peculiaridad que esta situación adquiere para esta segunda generación? Si este concepto fue pensado para las primeras generaciones: ¿cuáles serían, entonces, los puntos de difracción que les hijes articulan y qué nuevas singularidades adquieren los desplazamientos en ellos? Proponemos explorar los modos en que estas narrativas elaboran la experiencia exiliar en sus diferentes facetas: el desgarramiento de la partida, la confrontación con nuevas lenguas y códigos culturales, la gestión del secreto familiar, la nostalgia por un fantasmático país que no es el propio, el regreso de los padres a rgentina (que a menudo es un primer exilio para los chicos), la conciencia de su doble pertenencia y de su condición híbrida, transterrada, fronteriza. Sus relatos suelen instalarse en una zona liminar entre géneros, identidades, lenguas y culturas, estableciendo vínculos con otras narrativas coetáneas y ficciones de “extranjería” que dan cuenta de la existencia una literatura argentina transnacional y multilingüe.
