This book represents a selection of papers presented at the Inductive Logic Programming (ILP) workshop held at Cumberland Lodge, Great Windsor Park. The collection marks two decades since the first ILP workshop in 1991. During this period the area has developed into the main forum for work on logic-based machine learning. The chapters cover a wide variety of topics, ranging from theory and ILP implementations to state-of-the-art applications in real-world domains. The international contributors represent leaders in the field from prestigious institutions in Europe, North America and Asia.Graduate students and researchers in this field will find this book highly useful as it provides an up-to-date insight into the key sub-areas of implementation and theory of ILP. For academics and researchers in the field of artificial intelligence and natural sciences, the book demonstrates how ILP is being used in areas as diverse as the learning of game strategies, robotics, natural language understanding, query search, drug design and protein modelling.

This book constitutes the strictly refereed post-workshop proceedings of the 6th International Workshop on Inductive Logic Programming, ILP-96, held in Stockholm, Sweden, in August 1996. The 21 full papers were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in the book in revised version. Also included is the invited contribution "Inductive logic programming for natural language processing" by Raymond J. Mooney. Among the topics covered are natural language learning, drug design, NMR and ECG analysis, glaucoma diagnosis, efficiency measures for implementations and database interaction, program synthesis, proof encoding and learning in the absence of negative data, and least generalizations under implication ordering.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Inductive Logic Programming, ILP 2005, held in Bonn, Germany, in August 2005. The 24 revised full papers presented together with the abstract of 4 invited lectures were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in the book. The papers address all current topics in inductive logic programming, ranging from theoretical and methodological issues to advanced applications in various areas, also including more diverse forms of non-propositional learning.

"How often we recall, with regret", wrote Mark Twain about editors, "that Napoleon once shot at a magazine editor and missed him and killed a publisher. But we remember with charity, that his intentions were good. " Fortunately, we live in more forgiving times, and are openly able to express our pleasure at being the editors of this volume containing the papers selected for presentation at the 14th International Conference on Inductive Logic Programming. ILP 2004 was held in Porto from the 6th to the 8th of September, under the auspices of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computing of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), and the Laborat ́ orio de Inteligˆ encia Arti?cial e Ciˆ encias da Computa ̧ c ̃ ao (LIACC). This annual me- ing of ILP practitioners and curious outsiders is intended to act as the premier forum for presenting the most recent and exciting work in the ?eld. Six invited talks--three from ?elds outside ILP, but nevertheless highly relevant to it-- and 20 full presentations formed the nucleus of the conference. It is the full-length papersofthese20presentationsthatcomprisethebulkofthisvolume. Asisnow common with the ILP conference, presentations made to a "Work-in-Progress" track will, hopefully, be available elsewhere. We gratefully acknowledge the continued support of Kluwer Academic P- lishers for the "Best Student Paper" award on behalf of the Machine Lea- ing journal; and Springer-Verlag for continuing to publish the proceedings of these conferences.

Inductive Logic Programming written by Francesco Bergadano and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996 with Computers categories.

Although Inductive Logic Programming (ILP) is generally thought of as a research area at the intersection of machine learning and computational logic, Bergadano and Gunetti propose that most of the research in ILP has in fact come from machine learning, particularly in the evolution of inductive reasoning from pattern recognition, through initial approaches to symbolic machine learning, to recent techniques for learning relational concepts. In this book they provide an extended, up-to-date survey of ILP, emphasizing methods and systems suitable for software engineering applications, including inductive program development, testing, and maintenance. Inductive Logic Programming includes a definition of the basic ILP problem and its variations (incremental, with queries, for multiple predicates and predicate invention capabilities), a description of bottom-up operators and techniques (such as least general generalization, inverse resolution, and inverse implication), an analysis of top-down methods (mainly MIS and FOIL-like systems), and a survey of methods and languages for specifying inductive bias. This book constitutes the refereed conference proceedings of the 28th International Conference on Inductive Logic Programming, ILP 2018, held in Ferrara, Italy, in September 2018. The 10 full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. Inductive Logic Programming (ILP) is a subfield of machine learning, which originally relied on logic programming as a uniform representation language for expressing examples, background knowledge and hypotheses. Due to its strong representation formalism, based on first-order logic, ILP provides an excellent means for multi-relational learning and data mining, and more generally for learning from structured data.
