Yrjö Kokko, kirjan Tiiti, kuvasi ja havainnoi joutsenia yhdessä Niuniun, saamelaisen Sulo Rovan kanssa. Tarinassa on eräretken jännitystä ja luonnon mystiikkaa, sen harvinaislaatuisissa kuvissa Lapin runoa ja todellisuutta. Kun kirja vuonna 1950 ilmestyi, laulujoutsenia pesi Suomessa viitisentoista paria. Monikaan ei ollut joutsenta ikinä nähnyt. Teoksella on ollut merkittävä osuus myös luonnonvaraisten lintujen, erityisesti joutsenten suojelun kannalta. Yrjö Kokko aloittama määrätietoinen työ joutsenkannan pelastamiseksi ja laulujoutsenen suojelemiseksi on tuottanut tulosta: nykykanta on n. 8 500-10 000 paria. Teoksen antia ovat myös ainutlaatuiset kuvat joutsenista ja pohjoisen elämästä. Kokko keräsi materiaalia tätä teosta varten vuosia kuvaten harvinaisia lintuja vaikeissa olosuhteissa. Hän kehitti ja huuhteli filmit lammen vedessä. Negatiivit hän leyhytteli kuiviksi ulkona pakkasessa, jotta tiipiin keskellä palavan nuotion tuhka ei olisi jättänyt niihin jälkiä.
