Hay cosas que no cambian: cada día amanece, cada semana juega nuestro equipo de fútbol y cada otoño caen las hojas de los árboles y comienza la temporada de recogida de setas. Pero también ocurren otras cosas: cada semana las calles contemplan asombradas cómo algún pardillo es víctima de un timo más popular que la paella mixta. Sí, timos, porque aún hoy se dan, tantos años después de su edad de oro. Fueron los años sesenta y setenta, en los que la estafa de la estampita y el tocomocho formaban parte del acervo cultural, en grotesca manifestación de la picaresca que tanto predicamento tuvo en nuestro país (y retuvo: la sección de noticias lo confirma a diario), a modo de dique de contención de la modernidad. Lo cierto es que, con mayor o menor grado de elaboración en las artes del engaño, el objetivo de los timos y estafas casi siempre ha sido el mismo: engatusar y engañar a incautos que, en una situación propicia, no pueden reprimir el muy humano sueño de convertirse, de repente y sin esfuerzo, en una persona rica. Bien lo saben los promotores de loterías, quinielas, primitivas, cuponazos y otros sistemas de juego cuyo principal atractivo y gancho argumentativo es la enorme cuantía del premio, su capacidad de alterar -de golpe- la vida del afortunado, de cambiar los cotidianos problemas económicos por un futuro que destierra para siempre los números rojos a fin de mes: "efectivamente, hay pocas posibilidades, pero ¿y si toca?"

El trabajo infanti es una realidad. . Pero tan dura como esta circunstancia, o más, hay otra que supera cualquier límite: la esclavitud. Más de 200 millones de niños -unos 400 millones según Misiones Salesianas-, el grupo más vulnerable y con menos capacidad para defender sus derechos, se enfrentan a situaciones de trabajo infantil o esclavitud y se ven obligados a trabajar para subsistir, ayudar a sus familias o pagar deudas, entre otros motivos. Según la OIT, el hecho de que se considere a un menor trabajador o esclavo depende de su edad, del tipo de trabajo, las horas que invierte en él y las condiciones en que lo realiza. El Artículo 3 del Convenio núm. 182 de la OIT define las cuatro peores formas de trabajo infantil: Todas las formas de esclavitud o las prácticas análogas a la esclavitud, como la venta y la trata de niños, la servidumbre por deudas y la condición de siervo, y el trabajo forzoso u obligatorio, incluido el reclutamiento forzoso u obligatorio de niños para utilizarlos en conflictos armados. La utilización, el reclutamiento o la oferta de niños para la prostitución, la producción de pornografía o actuaciones pornográficas. La utilización, el reclutamiento o la oferta de niños para la realización de actividades ilícitas, en particular, la producción y el tráfico de estupefacientes, tal como se definen en los tratados internacionales pertinentes. El trabajo que, por su naturaleza o por las condiciones en que se lleva a cabo, es probable que dañe la salud, la seguridad o la moralidad de los niños.
