Welcome to an old-school Le Veque novel!A mighty knight known as The Centurion is the man in control behind a powerful liege with dementia, but when his love for a young woman begins to compromise the stability of the Scottish marches, he must make a choice between love... or peace.Sir Torston de Royans is known on the border as a man of reason, wisdom, and great strength. He also happens to serve a greatly respected liege who slips further into dementia with each passing day. Lord Lionel Harringham believes himself to be a Roman Caesar, and Torston is his great Centurion. Unfortunately, Lord Lionel also commands one of the largest castles in the north and Torston finds himself in a position of not only the protector of the castle known as The Lyceum, but the protector of Lord Lionel's reputation.Adding to this stressful situation is Lady Alyx de Ameland. A young woman from an allied family, she has loved Torston for as long as she can recall, but he's never shown much interest in her. At least not publicly, but privately, Torston longs for Alyx a great deal. However, he cannot think of marriage because of Lord Lionel's madness. It wouldn't be fair to bring a wife into the mix of madness that plagues The Lyceum. But Torston isn't the only one who longs for the lovely Alyx.A Scottish laird has his eye on her, too. Laird Douglas Kerr is a man who covets the English lass and does everything in his power to convince Alyx's father that he would make a good husband for her, but his motives are not honorable. He covets Alyx's land more than Alyx herself, and as Torston realizes that he can no longer wait to declare his intentions for Alyx, something he has been keeping secret for years finally makes itself, or herself, known... his betrothed. And she brings hell with her. It's Medieval mayhem, madness, and matrimony on the borders as Torston and Alyx fight for a love that, once realized, is more powerful than all the armies in England and Scotland. Will true love prevail in spite of the odds?Note: This book will be in excess of 350 pages.

Queer Readings Of The Centurion At Capernaum written by Christopher B. Zeichmann and has been published by SBL Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-10-28 with Social Science categories.

The first-ever monograph on the history of queer biblical interpretation of a controversial biblical passage Since the 1950s, homoerotic readings of the pericope in which Jesus heals a Roman centurion’s slave have been built upon three of the account’s features: the specific Greek word pais, which can refer to youth, slave, or the junior partner in a sexual relationship between two men; Luke’s characterization of the young man as “dear” (entimos) to the centurion; and commonplace homoeroticism in the Roman army. Rather than affirming or denying the historical reality of a sexual relationship between the centurion and the young man, Christopher B. Zeichmann instead traces the shifting patterns of queer readings of the text and the influences of the sexual, political, and theological discourses of late twentieth- and early twenty-first-century Europe, the United States, and Australia. Readers will see how distinct political contexts have led interpreters to find very different meanings about the sexual subtexts of this story.

Jesuits written by Jean Lacouture and has been published by Catapult this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997-10-01 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

In this magisterial account, Jean Lacouture portrays the sweep of five hundred years of world history, from the dungeons of the Vatican to the jungles of South America to the royal courts of Europe and Asia. Jesuits: A Multibiography is history with a human face, the fascinating tales of men of the spirit who participated in the actions and passions of the modern world, a "world bursting its seams." "Be all things to all men," said the founder of the Jesuits, Ignatius of Loyola, to his followers. "Go and set the world ablaze!" The often picaresque story takes us to the Paris of Rabelais, where Ignatius, with a handful of his fellow students, formed what would become the Society of Jesus. We follow Francis Xavier to Japan and Matteo Ricci to China. We watch as the Society grows into Christendom's most powerful order, and as the "Black Legend" of a calculating, Machiavellian Jesuitry leads to its abolition in 1773 (it was restored forty years later). We see the great characters of history and culture--Pascal, Voltaire, Frederick the Great, Catherine the Great--play their parts. One of Jean Lacouture's most poignant portraits is of the twentieth century's most famous and beloved Jesuit, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, a scientist-priest whose humanistic conclusions put him at odds with the Church. Lacouture's wide-ranging narrative illuminates Pope John XXIII's reforms and the Jesuit-inspired liberation theology movements in Central and South America. With the papacy of John Paul II, a riveting drama unfolds as the Jesuits are brought under new constraints.
