Le chirurgien dentiste spécialiste qualifié en orthopédie dento-faciale est soumis à la convention dentaire nationale conclut entre les syndicats dits représentatifs et l'union nationale des caisses d'assurance maladie (arrêté du 14 juin 2006). Il fait partie d'une triade thérapeutique qui comprend le patient, le praticien traitant et le praticien-conseil de la sécurité sociale. Ce dernier fait partie de l' "équipe" dans la mesure où il autorise la participation financière de la sécurité sociale. Cette triple relation peut à tout moment devenir conflictuelle car la prise en charge financière du traitement est soumise à accord préalable de la caisse de sécurité sociale. Il arrive en effet parfois que la caisse refuse cette prise en charge. Une procédure d'expertise médicale peut être ordonnée dans ce cas (3° partie). Après avoir abordé l'organisation du service médical de la sécurité sociale (1° partie), il conviendra alors de se pencher sur le contexte des expertises de sécurité sociale : le contentieux médical (2° partie) et le contentieux administratif (4° partie). Ce dernier, appelé contentieux du contrôle technique de la sécurité sociale, concerne "les fautes, abus, fraudes et tous faits intéressant l'exercice de la profession, relevés à l'encontre des chirurgiens-dentistes à l'occasion des soins dispensés aux assurés sociaux". La dernière nouveauté en matière de sanction sera également étudiée : la pénalité financière (5° partie)
