The social consequences of anti-parasitic urbanism, as efforts to expunge supposedly biological parasites penalize those viewed as social parasites. According to French philosopher Michel Serres, ordered systems are founded on the pathologization of parasites, which can never be fully expelled. In Paris and the Parasite, Macs Smith extends Serres's approach to Paris as a mediatic city, asking what organisms, people, and forms of interference constitute its parasites. Drawing on French poststructuralist theory and philosophy, media theory, the philosophy of science, and an array of literary and cultural sources, he examines Paris and its parasites from the early nineteenth century to today, focusing on the contemporary city. In so doing, he reveals the social consequences of anti-parasitic urbanism.

Le Corbusier written by Stanislaus von Moos and has been published by 010 Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Architecture categories.

Originally published in Germany in 1968, this first comprehensive and critical survey of Le Corbusier's life and work soon became the standard text on the architect and polymath. French, Spanish, English, Japanese and Korean editions followed, but the book has now been out of print for almost two decades. In the meantime, Le Corbusier's archives in Paris have become available for research, resulting in an avalanche of scholarship. Von Moos' critical take and the basic criteria by which the subject is organized and historicized remain surprisingly pertinent in the context of this recent jungle of Corbusier studies. This new, completely revised edition is based on the 1979 version published in English by the MIT Press but offers a substantially updated body of illustrations. Each of the seven chapters is supplemented by a critical survey of recent scholarship on the respective issues. An updated edition of this acclaimed book, an essential read for students of architecture and architectural history.

The Millowners' Association Building in Ahmedabad, designed by Le Corbusier and completed in 1954, has rarely been published, but is nevertheless considered an important milestone in the architect's work. In particular, the building influenced his later work, such as the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts at Harvard. This book documents the building and relates it to Le Corbusier's theoretical work, especially Vers une architecture. The significance of key figures such as Paul Valéry and John Ruskin for Le Corbusier's work is explained. Characteristic design elements such as the promenade architecturale and the use of brise-soleils are explored. In addition to numerous scaled drawings, newly produced models clarify the most important design aspects of the building. Le Corbusier's 1954 building for the Millowners' Association in Ahmedabad is an understudied key work With attractive photographs, new drawings, and models created especially for the publication The structure exemplifies characteristic elements of Le Corbusier's work and his development as an architect

Constructing Place written by Sarah Menin and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-02-24 with Architecture categories.

This book is a cutting edge study examining the attitudes to both nature and the built environment of the designer, the client and the society in which an intervention (be it architecture, landscape design or a piece of art) is made. The legacy of the Modernist view of nature and the environment is also addressed, and the degree to which such ideas continue to impinge on contemporary interventions is assessed.
