[English]: A fifth of the 21st century is already behind us and the set of art music composed from 2001 to today is impressive. The current scenario raises many questions. How does the art music of the early 2000s differ - if it does - from that of the late twentieth century? Should we consider the twentieth century of ‘longue durée’ or do factors of discontinuity emerge? And is the alleged discontinuity between the twentieth and twenty-first centuries in some way comparable to the major turning points in music history, such as, for instance, those that happened between the 16th and 17th centuries or between the 19th and 20th centuries? And again: how does the contemporary corpus of Western Art Music interact with other genres? And how does it relate to the various contemporary arts, from literature to the visual arts, from cinema to architecture? What is the impact on musical creativity of new technologies, the Internet, new media, artificial intelligence? How are the relationships between organizers, publishers, composers, performers, critics, and audiences redefined? How can live music be promoted during a health emergency? Some indications and numerous insights emerge in this volume which collects the proceedings of a study meeting promoted by the University of Naples "Federico II", which took place in streaming on April 13, 2021. It features Marco Bizzarini (Beyond the postmodern), Gianluigi Mattietti (Virtual and augmented reality), Mauro Montalbetti (Musical theater, current events and politics in the opera Haye: le parole la notte), Lisa La Pietra (The multidimensionality of the voice in the 21st century), Tommaso Rossi (Organizing music during the pandemic), Simona Frasca (The Neapolitan song between old technologies and contemporary practices). A second forthcoming volume will add further details.

The Cinematography Of Roger Corman written by Pawel Aleksandrowicz and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-09-23 with Literary Criticism categories.

Roger Corman is an ambiguous artistic figure. On the one hand, he is notorious for shooting and producing his films quickly, cheaply and with blatant disregard for safety measures, which, together with his ability to issue a dozen new films every year and his impressive filmography, have earned him the titles of “shlockmeister” and “the King of the B’s” among film journalists. On the other hand, he became the youngest American director to be given a film retrospective at the prestigious Cinématèque Française in Paris, one of his directorial efforts – House of Usher – was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awarded him with an Academy Honorary Award “for his rich engendering of films and filmmakers.” This book investigates this duality and explores whether Corman is indeed a shlockmeister or an artist whose works are worthy of the highest cinema awards. The scope of analysis is limited to his directorial efforts “only” – still encompassing 50 features – excluding the 400 films he produced. The methodology adopted here is based on the auteur theory in its structuralist version by Geoffrey Nowell-Smith and Peter Wollen, and focuses on three areas of interest: work ethic – personal elements in the films, personal control over and commitment to the production process outside direction; themes – topics and concerns common for many of the films regardless of the genre; and style – recurring stylistic motifs and elements in the camerawork, editing, and framing.

The Language Of Stravinsky written by Angelo Cantoni and has been published by Georg Olms Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-10-31 with Music categories.

The Language of Stravinsky proposes new methods of looking at Stravinsky’s work, more than 40 years after his death. It considers both his individual compositions and the evolution of his work over his lifetime. The main purpose of the book is to analyse and clarify the inner coherence of Stravinsky’s music, despite the wide variety of styles, instrumental combinations and theatrical modes with which he worked. Though his career is often seen as falling into three distinct periods – Russian, Neoclassical and Serial – his work as a whole is threaded through with a language unique to himself as a composer. The analysis presented in this account identifies the basic elements and grammar of this underlying musical language. Each of the eight chapters of the book focuses on one aspect of Stravinsky’s musical language, followed chronologically within that chapter. The same works are therefore often studied in different chapters, looked at from a different musical perspective. This analysis of Stravinsky’s music over time provides major new insights into his work.

Mario Puzo wrote a book and Coppola made a film about the Mafia, but only Letizia Battaglia told the real story, the plain, harsh story. She told Vice that her mission was "to document everything that acted as testimony against the Mafia."Drago is proud to announce its new project: an anthology, curated by Paolo Falcone, of Letizia Battaglia's extraordinary photographic work, from 1971 to 2016.Letizia Battaglia (Palermo, 1935) is a Sicilian photographer and photojournalist. Although her photos document a wide spectrum of Sicilian life, she is best known for her work on the Mafia.Over the years, Battaglia took some 600,000 images whilst documenting the ferocious internal war of the Mafia, and its assault on civil society. Battaglia sometimes found herself at the scene of four or five different murders in a single day. In a recent interview with CNN, Battaglia claimed that her "archives are full of blood" interspersed with images that capture the "immense beauty" of Sicily. The Daily Beast wrote that her pictures capture "Mafia judges and police officers, many dead in their cars with blood so fresh it glimmers like water." Yet some present daily Sicilian life with "young girls playing on the cobbled streets and wealthy women in fur collars sipping champagne."A large selection of her iconic black and white images will be presented in the catalogue, guiding the reader along a journey into one of post-war Italy's darkest periods. Drawing from Battaglia's personal archive the book also includes more recent projects. It offers a unique approach to her genre-defining photography (often linked to that of American 'crime' photographer Weegee) and a chance to reflect on the role of photography as an individual and collective means for taking action, bearing witness, providing evidence and documenting history.
