Le monde est en crise? Non, il est en pleine mutation. Dans cet ouvrage (le cinquième publié chez la même éditrice), Daniel Leveillard commence par brosser un tableau bien noir de l’état du monde (social, écologie, ecclésiologie). Mais, dès le second texte, il écrit à coups de craie, un message d’une perspective encourageante, et à mesure du troisième texte, on comprend bien que « quelque chose » se déroule, qui dépasse le seul cadre du naturel. « N’ayez pas peur! », aimait à dire le pape Jean-Paul II. Le quatrième texte confirme la place prépondérante de l’Église. Traversant elle aussi, une crise sans précédent, elle se révèle néanmoins porteuse d’un immense espoir qui, dans la conclusion du livre, ne laisse plus aucun doute. Et si la prophétie de Malachie disait vrai? Et si ces deux papes « conjoints » conformément à cette prophétie, attendaient « un troisième homme » providentiel, qui allait ébranler la Cité romaine et jeter les assises (comme François) d’une nouvelle façon de voir l’Église et le monde? Cela semblerait relever de la fiction si le livre de Daniel Leveillard n’était pas aussi documenté. Quant à ses deux textes adressés à Rome, c’est tout simplement édifiant! Le Temps de la Réconciliation est un livre d’histoire, mais on largue très vite l’histoire simple pour accéder à une histoire sainte. Superbe symbole pour l’Église : comme au pied de la Croix, c’est alors qu’on croit que tout est fini que tout commence. Ce livre est vraiment de nature à nous réconcilier avec l’Église. Avec un autre regard.

Jean-Marie Tjibaou is arguably the most important post–World War II Oceanic leader. His intellectual abilities, acute understanding of both Melanesian and European civilizations, stature as a statesman, commitment to nonviolence, and vision for Melanesia’s potential contributions to the global community have all contributed to the creation of a remarkable and enduring legacy. Until now, no substantial English-language study has existed of Tjibaou, who was assassinated in 1989. This intellectual biography of the Kanak (New Caledonia) leader takes an essentially chronological approach to his life—from his beginnings in the mountains of northern New Caledonia and his studies at the Sorbonne to his leadership of the independence movement in the Territory. The work focuses on the spiritual, cultural, and intellectual sources of Tjibaou’s ideas and actions as well as on those who were a source of inspiration to him. Particular attention is given to Tjibaou’s sense of service, the convergences and divergences he identified as existing between Melanesian and Western civilizations, and the impact of metropolitan French politics on the situation in the Territory. The essays in Home Words explore the complexity of the idea of home through various theoretical lenses and groupings of texts. One focus of this collection is the relation between the discourses of nation, which often represent the nation as home, and the discourses of home in children’s literature, which variously picture home as a dwelling, family, town or region, psychological comfort, and a place to start from and return to. These essays consider the myriad ways in which discourses of home underwrite both children’s and national literatures.
