Le tre minestre che danno il titolo al racconto autobiografico di Andrea Vitali rappresentano, con un espediente letterario tanto originale quanto spassoso, tre ministre: è così che Vitali ribattezza segretamente le zie che accompagnano gli anni della sua infanzia. Cristina, ministro degli Interni, è preposta alla conduzione delle faccende domestiche e alla cucina; Colomba, ministro dell'Agricoltura, si occupa dell'orto e delle attività agricole di famiglia; Paola infine, ministro degli Esteri, è impegnata professionalmente fuori casa e cura le relazioni con vicini e parenti. Filo conduttore del racconto di Vitali sono le qualità attribuite ai cibi di casa, più particolarmente le loro presunte virtù terapeutiche, a cui si legano vari aneddoti. Siamo in un'Italia di provincia, negli anni Sessanta, dove ancora si parla il dialetto e "la saggezza si esprime in assiomi che non ammettono repliche". Le zie circondano il ragazzino con un affetto "rustico ma profumato", dettato dal buon senso ma ancora pregno di superstizioni, retaggio di una cultura popolare di altri tempi. Ne emerge uno spaccato di vita vissuta e di costume di grande suggestione, delicatamente nostalgico e al contempo ironico. Un autentico tuffo nel passato al quale contribuisce anche il verace ricettario della tradizione locale che affonda le radici nel territorio, tra le sponde del lago di Como e le valli retrostanti.
