Elle comprend en même temps que Fleur, bien qu’ayant un nouvel amant, ne restera pas insensible au charme sonnant et trébuchant de son frère. Sentant la menace se rapprocher et n’écoutant plus que la jalousie qui la dévore, elle décide de précipiter les événements et de retourner la situation à son profit au prix d’une sombre machination. Un drame que plus rien ne pourra enrayer va dès lors se jouer, entraînant dans une spirale infernale tous ceux qui ont misé sur « l’argent du ciel ». Et c’est le venin de la terre – mais n’en disons rien ! – qui aura le terrible dernier mot. Yveline Gimbert nous livre là un roman haletant dans lequel l’amour et l’argent sont unis pour le pire. EXTRAIT Le mont Palluc devait le terme « diable » à tous les drames survenus sur ce plateau sis à mille quatre cents mètres d’altitude dans les derniers contreforts des Cévennes. Les hivers y étaient longs et rudes, le froid sévissait, la neige volait, la bise hurlait. The Natural History presents a pre-Linnaean botany and pre-Darwinian account of living things, including hundreds of species of plants and vivid descriptions of wildlife. It is thoroughly annotated, focusing on the contemporary identification of species, as the result of a pan-Canadian collaboration of experts in fields from linguistics to biology and botany. The Codex Canadensis, currently in the collection of the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is reproduced in full and provides both a fascinating visual account of wildlife as Nicolas saw it and a rare example of early Canadian art. Gagnon's introduction profiles Louis Nicolas and analyses connections between his work and European examples of natural illustration from the period.
