n his 2019 book, Teaching to the North-East: Relationship-based learning in practice Professor Bishop identified how Māori and other marginalised students-such as the children of migrant, refugee, and faith-based groups and neuro- and gender-diverse children-can benefit from a North-East relationship-based pedagogy. Now in Leading to the North-East, he demonstrates how North-East leaders ensure teachers are able to implement and sustain the North-East relationship-based pedagogy with fidelity. This is done by: setting goals for equity, excellence, and cultural sustainability; implementing a pedagogic approach that ensures these goals are realised; implementing in-school support systems that ensures the pedagogy is implemented with fidelity over time; and taking ownership of the approach by planning, resourcing, and reviewing teaching and school-wide leadership practices to ensure support systems work as intended, over time. The book includes three case studies that demonstrate how this process of reform was able to successfully raise Māori student achievements to match that of their non-Māori peers, enable Māori students to do so "as Māori", and benefit other marginalised students.

A Clarion Call to Emerging Leaders: Step Up and Lead Now! In True North: Emerging Leaders Edition, renowned leadership expert Bill George and Millennial tech entrepreneur Zach Clayton issue the challenge to emerging leaders—from Gen X to Millennials and Gen Z—to lead their organizations authentically through never-ending crises to make this world a better place for everyone. Emerging leaders do so by discovering their “True North”—who they are—and then finding their “North Star”—their leadership purpose. To navigate today’s complexities, George and Clayton show emerging leaders how to lead with their hearts, not just their heads, with passion, compassion, and moral courage by being true to their values to reach their full potential as they take on great challenges and navigate complex issues. Harvard professor Bill George, with four best-selling books to his credit including the timeless classic True North, is the former CEO of Medtronic who established authentic leadership in 2003. He teams up with Zach Clayton, an emerging leader still amid his own leadership development journey, to give emerging leaders the definitive guide for leading in today’s complex world. The Emerging Leader Edition is filled with dramatic stories from successful leaders such as Microsoft’s Satya Nadella and Merck’s Ken Frazier to PepsiCo’s Indra Nooyi and General Motors’ Mary Barra, and emerging leaders like OneTrust’s Kabir Barday and Kanbrick’s Tracy Britt Cool of how they overcame great challenges to build highly successful organizations. The book offers concrete suggestions for: Becoming an authentic leader, equipped to lead inclusively with moral clarity through challenges and crises Cultivating regular introspection to ground yourself with self-awareness, live your values, and use your unique strengths Integrating all aspects of your life—including who you are at home, at work, and in the community Understanding how Millennials are leading more effectively in today’s world Being an inclusive leader prepared to take on fraught issues like stakeholder challenges, racial and sexual equality, and sexual misconduct Knowing when—and how—leaders should speak out on today’s complex public issues The Emerging Leader Edition of True North is the classic guide for every current and aspiring leader to reach their full, authentic potential.

In June of 2017, I embarked on the journey of a deep look into myself, my goals, my life mission and penned what would eventually become my personal mission statement which is: "I will lead people who matter to do things that matter." The purpose of me writing this book is to share the most important principles of leadership that I have discovered and organized into presentations utilized throughout my leadership journey as a teacher, administrator, church leader, husband, father, and friend. I believe that each person's leadership begins within, leading oneself. We must lead ourselves well in order to be fit to lead others. True North on a compass is found at zero and three hundred sixty degrees. True North serves as a metaphor for the guiding principles of life that should lead us as we lead others. As we live and seek to lead others in their lives, we need to set a bearing that is true and live on purpose with principles as our guide. Purposeful living requires purposeful learning. I hope this book provides an easy way to grasp major concepts and principles of leadership that will help you on your journey of living and leading on purpose. Leadership is a popular topic within our culture today; however, there is so much based on an author's personality, experiences, and area of operation. Is there a set of principles that are sufficient to guide one to know that his/her leadership is heading in the right direction? True North is a metaphor to represent such an idea. Living and leading on purpose requires that we discover core principles and intentionally apply them in our lives on a daily basis as we lead ourselves well. May this book inspire the heart of a champion in you and cause you to live life loud.

During the June 2020 territorial dispute over Kalapani, India blamed tensions on a newly assertive Nepal's deepening relations with China. But beyond the accusations and grandstanding, this reflects a new reality: the power equations in South Asia have been redrawn, to make space for China. Nepal did not turn northwards overnight. Its ties with China have deep historical roots built on Buddhism, dating to the early first millennium. While India's unofficial 2015 blockade provided momentum to the rift with Delhi, Nepal has long wanted deeper ties with Beijing, to counteract India's oppressive intimacy. With China's growing South Asian and global ambitions, Nepal now has a new primary bilateral partner-and Nepalis are forging a path towards modernity with its help, both in the remote borderlands and in the cities. All Roads Lead North offers a long view of Nepal's foreign relations, today underpinned by China's world-power status. Sharing never- before-told stories about Tibetan guerrilla fighters, failed coup leaders and trans- Himalayan traders, Nepal analyst Amish Raj Mulmi examines the histories binding mountain communities together across the Sino-Nepali border. Part history, part journalistic account, Mulmi's is a complex, compelling and rigorously researched study of a small country caught between two neighbourhood giants.
