“Learn Ilocano through Stories” is not just a book, but a journey. It is the culmination of the author’s dreams, hopes, and countless hours spent in the realm of imagination. It is a testament to the lessons learned and the time ‘wasted’ in the pursuit of creativity. This book was born out of a desire to offer a fresh approach to learning Ilocano, a language that often poses challenges for learners due to its unique grammatical structure and lack of direct translations into English. The author, having explored numerous Ilocano grammar books and websites, recognized the need for a resource that was more accessible to those unfamiliar with Filipino or other Austronesian languages. Inspired by Olly Richards’ story learning method and the renowned Comprehensible Input method, this book presents an efficient way to learn Ilocano. It features a collection of short stories designed to help you understand and learn words and phrases in context, providing insights into the grammar of the language. However, it’s important to note that this book is not a magic ticket to fluency. It requires the reader to have a basic understanding of Ilocano grammar and vocabulary. But what it does promise is a significant boost to your existing knowledge of the language’s lexicon and grammar, equipping you with the skills to apply your learning in real-world situations. So, are you ready to embark on an exciting journey of language learning? Grab your copy of “Learn Ilocano through Stories” and start exploring the fascinating world of Ilocano today!

Okinawan Women S Stories Of Migration written by Johanna O. Zulueta and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-03-24 with History categories.

The phenomenon of “war brides” from Japan moving to the West has been quite widely discussed, but this book tells the stories of women whose lives followed a rather different path after they married foreign occupiers. During Okinawa’s Occupation by the Allies from 1945 to 1972, many Okinawan women met and had relationships with non-Western men who were stationed in Okinawa as soldiers and base employees. Most of these men were from the Philippines. Zulueta explores the journeys of these women to their husbands’ homeland, their acculturation to their adopted land, and their return to their native Okinawa in their late adult years. Utilizing a life-course approach, she examines how these women crafted their own identities as first-generation migrants or “Issei” in both the country of migration and their natal homeland, their re-integration to Okinawan society, and the role of religion in this regard, as well as their thoughts on end-of-life as returnees. This book will be of interest to scholars looking at gender and migration, cross-cultural marriages, ageing and migration, as well as those interested in East Asia, particularly Japan/Okinawa.

The Philippines series of the PALI Language Texts, under the general editorship of Howard P. McKaughan, consists of lesson textbooks, grammars, and dictionaries for seven major Filipino languages. Ilokano is an Austronesian language. It ranks third among the major languages of the Philippines, being spoken by just over 12 percent of the population. Widely spoken throughout the Philippines, Ilokano is the dominant language of most of the provinces of Northern Luzon and is used as a lingua franca by non-Ilokano speakers in this area. Settlers have also carried the language to Mindoro and to several areas in Mindanao. Ilokano Lessons was developed under the auspices of the Pacific and Asian Linguistics Institute (PALI) of the University of Hawaii, and accompanies the Ilokano dictionary and the Ilokano reference grammar. The lessons in this text are supplemented by a series of appendixes consisting of vignettes of Ilokano life, songs, a glossary, and vocabulary lists.

The Philippine Story written by David Bernstein and has been published by Pickle Partners Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-12-01 with History categories.

Published a year after the Philippines proclaimed independence in July 1946, the chief permanent value of this book lies in its survey of the history of the American experiment in the Philippines. The Philippine Story is a concise, inclusive analysis of the background, failure, achievements and implications of the American experiment in the Philippines, from Magellan to the present post-war era. The author, David Bernstein, sketches in an overall impression: geography, education, religion, anthropology, national characteristics, and so on. He then goes on to consider each major phase of island history, the acquiescent period of Spanish rule, the era of revolt with Rizal as its inspiration and later national hero, the transition to American rule and the rapid progress in education and social and economic justice under successive Governors-General. The final section deals with the war years and the new republic. An invaluable read that challenges America’s policies.
