LEARNERSHIP. Learning is a complex human activity with the object of knowledge creation and use in virtually all human affairs. And, learners are people with an ability to learn--although the development of this ability and willingness to use it varies widely across the general population. It follows, then, that there should be a term to describe people who are exceptional and influential learners, the breadth of their capabilities, and the extent of their influence on others. Learnership is the suggested term, and it is derived from: (1) learner - one who seeks to learn or to gain knowledge through experience or study, and (2) -ship (suffix) - to show or possess a quality, state, or condition. Additionally, learnership captures the essence and skill of leadership in which people are skillful in influencing others. Purchasers will be invited via email to a FREE webinar entitled: "What is the Meaning of YOUR LIfe" and are encouraged to view our 1 minute book trailer on www.youtube.com/user/forum entitled: "Giving Back." {Just send the original book receipt to the ALF address on the copyright page of the book} Some distinctive features of learnership are: 1. Learnership is an activity in the service of knowledge, its creation, and its application. 2. Learnership is about learning, and about being a learner. 3. Learnership is about knowing and how lifelong learning leads to the acquisition and storage of information and knowledge. 4. Learnership is about leading, and about influencing action. 5. Learnership is a whole-person competence. 6. Learnership can be practiced by just about anyone. From an epistemological viewpoint, learnership contributes to the individual learner's ability to construct their own knowledge of social reality and to succeed within that structure (Reference: The Social Construction of Reality by Berger and Luckmann). Meta-cognitive reflection provides the learner with opportunity to reframe personally held views and modify ingrained programs for thinking and behavior. On the philosophical level, learnership may be understood and appreciated as enthusiasm to participate in life and contribute to human progress by engaging in a broad set of mutually supportive and symbiotic practices that enrich peoples' knowledge and understanding. Learning to learn, and to use what is learned for the betterment of humankind is an essential characteristic of the learnership philosophy.

We don't have a teaching problem in our schools, we have a learning problem. Today, we understand quality teaching better than ever. We have skilful teachers doing a great job in our classrooms. But when we have quality teaching and are still not achieving the results we're looking for, it's a sign that we don't have a teaching problem. What we have is a learning problem. Ultimately, learning is not the product of teaching, it's the product of the activity of learners. Too many of our students are passive learners who avoid challenges, fail to act on feedback, or who waste effort instead of investing in it. To prepare students to not only succeed in school but also to have the agency they need to succeed in life, we must lead them to become skilful learners. In his fifth book, James Anderson unveils the concept of 'Learnership', which transforms learning from an act to an art. Within these pages you will learn how to: evaluate the current level of Learnership in your school using the Learnership Diagnostic tool foster a culture of growth that sets students up for success in both school and life apply the Mindset Continuum to nurture a growth mindset in your students harness deep insights into the pivotal role of challenges, Habits of Mind, mistakes, feedback and effort in cultivating Learnership develop more skilful learners in your classroom get your teachers on board and skilled in developing Learnership drive a Learnership program in your school. African Youth And The Persistence Of Marginalization written by Danielle Resnick and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-04-10 with Business & Economics categories.

The much heralded growth and transformation of many economies in sub-Saharan Africa over the last decade continues to receive prominent attention in academic scholarship and among policy practitioners. An apparent feature about this transformation, however, is that Africa’s youth appear to have been left out. This book critically examines the extent and consequences of the marginalization of African youth. It questions conventional wisdoms about data trends, aspirational goals, and common policy interventions surrounding Africa’s youth that have been variously propagated in both the development studies literature and in mainstream donor policy reports. The book explores macro trends from both a temporal and cross-regional perspective in order to highlight what is distinct about contemporary African youth and whether their prospects and behaviours do actually vary from their counterparts in other regions of the world or from previous generations of African youth. Such studies include cross-country analyses of youth employment patterns and modes of political participation, in-depth examination of the behaviours and aspirations of the urban youth, and critical reflections on the impact of rural employment initiatives, vocational education, and learnership programmes. The incorporation of multiple methods and disciplines, as well as its attention to policy issues, ensures that the book will be of great interest to graduate students, researchers, and professional researchers whose work lies at the intersection of African area studies and development studies as well as those focused on development economics, political science, and public policy and administration.
