All rights not granted by the above license are retained by the author. Abstract: Abstract For years, dialogues in CMC environments have been left unstudied. The analysis on this abundant pool of information should bring understanding on the process of collaborative learning. Hence, pedagogy may improve to the benefit of students. This project intends to study the dialogues in a completed primary five science project in Knowledge Forum (KF). This study is a qualitative research project based on content analysis on the notes contributed in the KF. Ten collaborative discussions types are built from Thompson's model of collaboration. Notes are coded individually. Connected notes are then classified into different types of note-tree. Following this, the results are discussed by using the dimensions in Henri's model to understand the learning process in Computer-mediated conferencing. There are two dominant types of collaborative discussion in the data set. They signify an uninfluenced and topic-coherent discussion. Both of the types concentrate the discussion on one theme and do not expand to other issues. The two dominant types differ on number of notes contributed. According to Henri's model, four dimensions have been looked at. There are different levels of participation. Most of the students discuss the topic seriously. While learning activities are noticeable in the KF, some students lack the ability to focus on the main topic. The social dimensions demonstrate relationship building in the KF. Some scaffolding supports are noticed. However, it would be helpful if warning indicators can be established in the future to identify at-risk learners, and to provide support at an early stage.
